“lunch restaurant with character”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Da Pippo is a restaurant only open for lunch, so you have to time when you go there. But it is well worth the visit. Quick and pleasant service.
The food is original and very tasty. Nothing pre-heated or re-heated, this is the original thing. Very much like a family dining place with style.

“GREAT LUNCH”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

My wife and I had heard of Da Pippo via the DK Eyewitness Guide to Malta. We were in Valetta for a day and decided to book a table (we walked to the restaurant at 11.30AM and asked for a table at lunchtime); the waiter recommended that we come back at 2.00PM. We continued with our shopping and returned at 2.00PM to find the restaurant full, but we waited for a table and were provided with a complimentary glass of wine during our wait. The wait was worth it. There is no menu, the waiter comes to the table and tells you what is available. We ordered our food and were then provided with bread, olives and a cold cooked mince meat with tomatoes (Included in the price). I had half a dozen grilled fresh prawns (large) as a starter which were delicious followed by calfs liver washed down with a Maltese Merlot. My wife did not have a starter and went for a simple grilled steak which she really enjoyed - this came with roast potatoes and vegetables. I finished with a very well made double espresso and Cointreau with ice.
We expected a large bill but were pleasantly surprised. You get fresh food cooked to order in more than adequate portion sizes.
The restaurant was full of local people (we were the only "foreigners.") and was extremely lively which added to the overall enjoyment. The staff were friendly and helpful and we will revisit on our next holiday in Malta

“Flawless”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

We arrived to find a packed dinning room at 1pm (only open for lunch). The staff were flustered because a couple of guys at what was to be our table were taking a long time to finish their wine at the end of a meal. They gave us a glass of wine each compliments of the house. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME IN 3 YEARS LIVING AND EATING IN MALTA. They sat us down and gave us a selection of Mize, in the meantime we both ordered fish which was steamed and cooked to perfection, seasonal roast veg and great roast potatoes. Unbelievable dessert followed with a great espresso and a limoncello (again compliments of the house - though this is pretty normal). Cost us €70 for a 3 course meal, two bottles of water and a bottle of wine. Will keep coming back

“Back street gem in Valetta”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

My contact in Malta managed to book a table of 10 for myself and my friends on a chaps day out prior to my wedding in Malta. Having been before I knew I would not be disappointed but it was good to get positive feedback from all of my friends. The fillet steak was stunning and those who had fish were presented with the equivalent of two portions of excellently cooked sea bass. We finished off with a bottle of lemoncello on the table and the whole bill for food and drinks including tips came to €48 per person.
This venue is very popular with the locals so if you want to guarantee a table arrive at 12 noon or try and book in advance, also note that this restaurant only opens at lunch.
