“A bit of a Central European taste - but not very attentive to service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

I definitely like the location and the atmosphere. The place is very popular with Maltese people. One major fault is that the service is of changing quality - sometimes it is really attentive but some staff members seem not to have been trained - for example they do not know what cakes are available on the day, what items on the menu are currently available and for any item they have to go and ask what is this and if it is available. The prices are of the sort you expect a proper service though!

“Calm, polite service, really tasty LOCAL light bites in the middle of a tourist street!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

Why a 5 ?
What is written in the title - not because it is 5***** Restaurant - Haute Cuisine

We were Fading after a morning of tourism
We fancied a bit of relaxation over a glass of wine and possible a light lunch
This is very close to the Main Gate into Valetta, on the main street so not an obvious choice BUT
Is the major importer of wines into Malta, has a great shop in the basement so likely to haver good wines
Looks expensive do not think it is - local wines are good, nibbles etc are NOT (this week at least) extra - we thought they must be. A Platter for 2 E15 is very tasty and definitely local and a great "light" lunch.
Really impressed.

If you decide to have Red Wine - DO NOT HAVE the Rothschild Chilean Red - unless you want PORT!

“Great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Old world service, wide price range - we had nice glass of bubbles each for just €4.50, excellent platter with meat/cheeses and bread. The guys who work there are top drawer for service. Generally quiet recommended esp for early doors unless its Friday which 'may' be a little noisier if filled with post-work crowd.

Really really good find

“Really Good Choice for Coffee and a Glass of Wine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

This place has only recently opened and is a welcome addition to Republic Street. We found it friendly and welcoming and used it 4 times. It looks like it's going to be an expensive place, but we thought the prices were very reasonable. Crisps, nuts and olives on your table are regularly topped up. The establishment prides itself on a selection of wines and juices from outside of Malta. Next time we go to Valletta we will make a beeline for Charles Grech. Free wifi is a bonus.

“Excellent food in Valletta”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Stopped for a light lunch here - had an excellent platter of Gozo specialities with a glass of wine. Service was efficient but lacked any warmth - made you feel a bit uneasy.
