“Simply great”

Great food, wonderful service and interesting menu! This place has a great interior design showing the original features of this old beautifully built palazzo. Food is well served in a great professional manner. Service is simply excellent.

“Wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

I must say it is a must be in Valletta. I've never eaten so tasty, well prepared and beautifully served dishes. There is nothing I may complain about. And the prices are really reasonable. For sure you shall book your table in advance, otherwise it is almost certain you won't get the table. We ate calmari, octopus and freshly prepared fish which we chose by ourselves from the table with fresh raw fish. And it was perfect. Homemade desserts are also wonderful. We took wine from their celler - very good to fish (wine called Palazzo Preca). The service is of very high quality, there are 4 waiters that are involved in the service. I often in new places try to search good restaurants, but this one is surely the best among all in which I have eaten so far.

“Plenty to Eat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012 via mobile

Went here for lunch and was impressed - lovely canapés and hot bread. The service was great and so was the food - however I did prefer the Guze Bistro's ambience if choosing between the two..

“Disappointing Experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Being the top rated Valletta restaurant on TripAdvisor I was particularly looking forward to dinner at Palazzo Preca. The "Ta' Familja" repuation I've long been hearing about was also adding to my expectations.

However I must say that my personal experience was a very disappointing one.

First we were seated at a very uncomfortable table with a piece of wood hitting the top of our thighs and although this was only a problem for the taller members of our party, its a big no-no at this level of restaurant. We were lucky they had a different table empty and we were moved.

The food I felt was quite poor:

Risotto starter was reduced to blob of coagulated over-cooked price pudding, and this was one of the chef's specialties!

Beef Rib-eye "Indimunjata" should come with warning of being extremely spicy, which it didn't. I love spicy food from all around the world but a dish should be balanced irrespective of how spicy it is, especially at this level of cooking. This one wasn't, with the sauce completely over-powering everything else, with no flavor emanating from the steak.

Dessert was a confectionery-style lemon meringue, very typical, nothing special.

Also, staff arguing outside the kitchen, within earshot are quite detrimental to any dining experience.

To end on a positive note, the decor and waiting staff are quite pleasant, and the food is presented nicely.
