“Excellent food, leisurely service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

We stopped here for lunch and there was nobody else seated, but with good recommendations we gave it a try. Food was very good, but plan on 90 minutes from start to end. Our appetizer came after about 30 minutes, and the main course, a seafood special, took another 40 before it arrived. I didn't think it should take that long to prepare a fish special, but we did notice that they had a delivery while we were waiting, and perhaps they had to wait for the spinach to arrive before they could add it to the fish? If you are in a hurry, this may not be the right place for you, but if you have the time you will be rewarded with very good food.

“a great place to eat in Valetta”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2013

As a party of 4 we had a wonderful meal at this restaurant. I had been told that the food in Malta was not good but this restaurant was wonderful. The food was excellent and I would highly recommend it. It is not one of the cheapest but in Malta you get what you pay for. Even so, the meal was not expensive.

Fantastic food at a leisurely pace. Not for you if you like fast service, suited us well.

“Definitely one of the best restaurants in Valletta and Malta”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

First of all I was pleased there was a good vibe in Valletta with a few street performers playing live music and people dining outside. Well done to Valletta local council and restaurant owners for keeping our capital alive. Capistrano is in old bakery street close to the manoel theatre.

Me and my wife were greeted with a complimentary cracker with bean paste and garlic bread with mozzarella, portion size was small but both items tasty.

For a starter I had garganelli with maltese sausage and my wife had a spinach and Brie Tart, Portion size was good, food was fresh and presentation was great. We did have to wait nearly 1 hr for the starter. It's not a bad thing as we were not in a hurry, but this might put some people off.

For main course my wife opted for the Scottish salmon with blank ink paste and I choose the pork loin, we also shared side vegetables and roast potatoes. 5/5 Portion size was good, food was fresh and presentation was great.

For dessert we shared a home-made choclate and mint cake with chantilly sauce and caramel ice cream.

Drinks: 1/2 bottle Isis, large sparkling, 1 espresso macchiato.

Price: 72 euros

Pros:
Usually a problem in Malta as its either a lot of food in the plate and poor presentation or vice versa . Was pleasantly surprised as the right balance was struck.

Very attentive staff, both Maltese ( for a change) . I have no problem being served by foreigners but it's quite rare nowadays to find Maltese speaking staff.

Excellent value for money.

Very romantic setting, cosy small restaurant, tasteful decor.

cons:
I wouldn't have minded to be asked if we wanted more bread with our meal.

1 hr wait for the starter even if the restaurant is quite small , not a problem for us yesterday but might be a problem for others.

Conclusion:

Highly recommended, will definitely dine again and recommend Capistrano to our friends. 5/5
