“best way to join valetta: best food, best wine, best atmosphere in town!”

know valetta for such a long time! 13 years ago you couldn't even have some drinks with small food after 7 o'clock. city was nearly dead after ten! and how amazing... some years later, valetta starts to awake from the big sleep. you can find some lovely places but LEGLIGIN is my favourite! every time I come to visit malta i share unforgettable hours in this bar with friends. it's comparing to cities like barcelone, lisbon, paris or rome!!! I love this bar... conny from berlin

“Wonderful tapas dishes and loads of atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We chanced upon this incredible cave of a restaurant by accident. We were looking for something special and we found it in Valetta at Legligin. Atmosphere in spades and wonderful chef/host in Chris who made our meal and our whole lunch a memorable experience. He was even able to cope with gluten free! The chicken is divine as was everything on the tasting plates. We had a great local Medina rose wine and finished with Chris' home made cherry wine and limoncello to have with dessert. Worth a trip to Malta just to visit this great establishment. Foodies will love it. David and Ki from Australia

“Terribly Overpriced...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2012

After reading the amazing reviews about this establishment on this page, I beg to differ. Everyone writes about mezes being served to oblivion, but my experience was different. The bill ran up to more than 100 euro for 2 persons, had a bottle of modest wine, 2 bottles of water and 6 spoonfulls of meze each (and 2 halves of a small gozitan cheese - gbejna tal-bzar - duly charged extra for). I could have gone into any local village bar, drank to my heart's content, been spoilt by twice or three times the amount of mezes and still had cash to take a taxi home. Definitely not one for people with healthy appetites, it's more of a place where people play posh and polite and say ooohhh and ahhhh at any tiny spoonful of food which you see laughing at you from the mismatched plates if you look hard enough. Sometimes i feel restaurants everywhere make their luck on the crowds they manage to pull through shrewd marketing, not on the quality of their service or the food they present. For the same money you could have a three course honest meal at one of many fabulous restaurants in Valletta. The decor is cozy and picturesque, my guess is that tables, cutlery and dinnerware have all been rounded up from thrift stores and car boot sales. This is one to miss, unless you have the habit of visiting a fast food right after 'dinner'....

“You've got to give it a go!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

Second visit to Legligin and another great evening. Pay €20 and let the Maltese/Mediterranean tapas sized dishes start rolling. All cooked with care, and tasted great. Dips, cheese, smoked fish, beef slices in tarragon sauce, pork stew, fish ravioli, anchovy strips on sliced tomato, great bread and local olive oil...Chris and Sergio will keep bringing more food until you concede defeat and can eat no more! A great wine list to choose from, reasonably priced and suits all pockets and tastes. We had the house 'home made' Legligin Merlot at €14 which was gutsy (but smooth) and went great with the food. Home made cherry wine and a very alcoholic house Limoncello also delicious. So long as you're not a faddy eater, you'll love this place, I'm sure. Did I mention the cosy and intimate surroundings and friendly service? - nice to see a chef/owner (indeed all staff) enthusiastic and deservedly proud of the food and wine they serve.

“Great Meze”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

We visited this atmospheric restaurant in a quiet street in Valletta. The owner, Chris, is a very personable man, very proud of his maltese heritage. For euro 18-50 per person we were treated to a fabulous selection of local delights. The food was seemingly endless in its supply until we asked when it ended to be told, "when you have had enough we will stop bringing it". The food was accompanied by maltese wine, at only 8 euros, it was superb.

If you are looking for traditional maltese Meze, look no further than this restaurant.
