Stayed here for three weeks in December 2012. Some nights were as low as $80 per night including breakfast so this definitely represented very good value, even by North American standards.
The hotel was clean and the staff very helpful. However the hotel is definitely not 5 stars by North American standards, it would probably be rated 4 stars here. We were lucky enough to be a high room and the view was awesome.
The hotel is spacious and has most facilities that a traveller could require, however there were some issues with the heating, hot water and the TV stations were inoperative for several days. The heating basically did not seem to work, when we asked about this we were told that there had been a problem with the system which was now fixed but it did not work properly for the rest of our stay. The weather was mild in December by North American standards so this was not a particular issue however the heating only ever blew noisy cold air. And there was no hot water at times which seemed very dependent on the time we took a shower which was very annoying by the end of our stay.
The hotel is very "designed," in fact over-designed in a lot of places, everywhere you look there is another idea. The room we had was wedge shaped with the bathroom walls at diffferent angles again and mainly only three quarters height (which made the bathroom pretty drafty and not very private). Thank goodness they did not follow the bizarre current trend in Spanish hotels of not making the toilet compartment private from the room! The bath was of a plastic material and the bottom of this flexed up and down when we showered, which was very surprising for a hotel of this supposed star rating.
There was a reasonable selection of food at breakfast and the staff were friendly, the hotel is not far from anywhere in Sliema.
Our overall impression was of a generally adequate hotel, very well-priced and convenient, albeit having a few "mechanical" problems (which seem to be common in Malta). It is however definitely over-starred by North American standards. Would we stay there again at the same price? Definitely.
