“Malta in February”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

I took a short break in Malta from 25th Feb to 1st March 2014 and stayed at 115 The Strand Hotel Sliema.
The Hotel is very well situated with the Med. just across the street from the Hotel entrance which allows you to walk safely in any direction.
The Hotel room was neither large or small but was very clean with comfortable beds and a flat screen tv. BUT it was mostly a PAY TV system (BBC news was free) The bathroom was also very well cleaned but not well maintained -- there were 3 light bulbs above the mirror 1 was on 2 were out when this was pointed out to the chamber maid she said she would report it (nothing happened) I went to the desk and reported it the receptionist noted it in her book but nothing was done the bulbs were NOT replaced during my 5 night stay.
The worst aspect of this hotel is the dining room especially at breakfast its chaos not a great selection of food queues at every station lack of basic equipment -- spoons knives forks plates etc etc.
The worst thing about it was the Tea / Coffee machine which seemed to always be breaking down or if working poured the water out past the cup on one side and the milk out past the other side. By trying to move the cup you might have got half a cup of tea and to try to fill it up again you had to repeat the process which caused a queue and with little space everything else was affected -- Orange juice Water cups etc etc all in a small space.
In my opinion this is a BUDGET hotel with upgrading of floor 5 in progress which meant workmen chipping walls at 7-30 in the morning and workmen with wheelbarrows in the lifts trying to move floor tiles ect from ground floor up to floor 5 and with lifts that only held 4 people at a time it was awful during peak periods
One redeeming factor was the 8th floor breakfast room had an outside eating area with a great view out over the harbour

Room Tip: Try floor 5 when upgrading is completed

First of all, the rooms are not like in the pictures, the difference between what we have booked and the truth is absolutely unacceptable...
Noises in the corridors until 3.30 o'clock in the morning...No reaction from the staff despite of complain.
The two lifts out of service for 2 hours...pleasant when your room is on the third level!
Terrible experience!!!

Room Tip: No good rooms !

the hotels position is very good and the rooms are comfortable but you have pay extra money for all facilities except sleeping. the wifi fees are very expensive you can't use free wi-fi at public areas too. if you want a sea wiewed room, you have to pay extra 20 euros per night. another strange term is about deposite fees, whereever you stay at the hotel, you have to pay 15 euros extra money for per night.
the air conditioners starts to work at 8pm! we visited there at februabry 2014 and air conditioners weren't working and the house keeper offered us to use our blankets!!! it was freezing cold inside and they didn't changed our room at last 3 of us suffered from flu. female housekeeper is a real trouble maker, very unexperienced and doesn't know how to talk to customers.
there was some rejunevation studies at the hotel when we stayed and they were starting to work at 8:00 am! and it was very noisy!
never ever again!! the worst hotel i've ever seen!

I had a 10th floor sea view room.
It was on the corner with a large balcony. Great sunrises!

Room was adequate size and furnishings ok. Bathroom clean and tidy. Air con worked just fine.

Location was excellent for me, good for driving and for catching the bus.

Breakfast was acceptable, lots of choice and nice to sit on the roof terrace enjoying the morning sun.

This hotel is perfect for those who maybe know the island and the benefits of its location. I would recommend for a short break, where you are out and about sightseeing.
It's purely a place to lay your head at night.

Car hire booked through the hotel and service all ok.

Can't grumble. The key is to be realistic!! It's a cheap and cheerful place to stay.

Tip - book a sea view, as I understand furnishings are better and there really isn't much of a view if you don't have sea view.

Stayed at 115 The a Strand for a week's holiday and a very reasonable hotel with good location for getting around Malta!
Building works on two floors currently undergoing renovation occurred on daily , which we were unaware of during our planned stay at said hotel. Luckily was out most of the day when it was occurring though dusty floors/balconies were a problem that the cleaning staff continuously battled with!
In general , comfortable rooms, friendly staff , good food ( half board) and plenty of it! Great view from 4th floor made room more than worth it!

We have just come back from a 3 night stay. Yes there are building works but you can't expect a hotel to close down while this is being carried out. The noise didn't start til 8ish and was usually finished by the time we returned from a day out. The rooms are spotlesly clean the bathrooms are a little dated but very clean with loads of hot water. It is well worth paying for a sea view and yes it is noisy but what do you expect if you book a hotel on the main road. I am a very poor sleeper but the noise at night didn't seem that bad. For what we paid £14 per night breakfast was good, something hot if you wanted each day. The hotel is brilliantly situated for buses, ferries, bars, shops and restaurants all within a few yards. For a weekend break away from Britian's appalling weather we had nothing to complain about. Cheap food and drink, 18 degrees, blue skies and some lovely cities to explore.

Room Tip: Pay for a sea view
