“Bayview Hotel & Apartments”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2012

Stayed in the apartment which is just down the road fro the main hotel. We upgraded to the top floor aparment which cost more but was worth it.
The lift is a little small, but we are both on the large size. The loo there is small as well, with just a shower, sink and toilet.
The bedroom has 2 twin beds pushed together and there is a small balcony which is where the washing machine is,don`t forget to bring along some washing powder. Soe nice views out the back.
The main room has a cooker, but the oven takes ages to cook.Ad we had to buy an extra saucepan as there were not enough. A good size fridge freezer, and a kettle and toaster.Plus, there is cups, plates, forks, etc.
Nice sofa which opens up into a sofa bed which was handy as we both get ill so could watch tv in bed.Good selection of channels with English. There is a dinning table and chairs, draws and is bright and roomy. HUGE balcony with great views and you can hear the ducks over in the duck village. There was a storm and the patio doors do rattle a lot and also leaked but the water dried up quickly. House keeping comes around everyday with fresh towels and bedding.
There is a safe which you need to pay a deposit for the lock and you need to pay for the wifi.
There is a bus stop near by and lots of good food places are near by. There is a super market up in the main shopping area, which is well priced, plus another one further up and you can hop on a bus,is about two stops.
Would defo stay here again. The staff are lovely,Malta is lovely. Hope to stay in this apartment again next year!
Would also like to say,we went to the all you can eat buffet in the main hotel, which was ok,I am veggie and could eat well.Selection of breads, eggs, beans, some meats,fruit,yogurts,juice... But we went for the dinner buffet and sadly had to say it was very poor. Had some sloppy pasta which tasted like a soup mix had been poured over it,my Husband had some sort of meat and was ill after, not sure if it was the meal or not,but sadly will have to say you are better off going up or down the road to the lovely kebab places.which also have a good selection for veggies to eat!
WE did wonder why people seemed to eat a lot at breakfast.

Room Tip: If you get harbour facing rooms you will get great views.Back facing rooms are still fine. .

I agree to all those who recently highly recommended the Bayview. It's great both for location and price. I was in the "hotel" section situated directly facing The Strand and I can't think of a lovelier view across Manoel Island and the northern waterfront of Valetta. The service is good - no complaints, and the room-maid did a very good job. As far as the cuisine is concerned: In my opinion it fits British feelings rather than continental ones but it's well done. They even have an outdoor swimming pool on the roof. The hotel is somewhat noisy, though - not from within the hotel but given the location on The Strand it's clear there is traffic all day and all night. On the other hand, if you prefer complete silence you shouldn't go to Malta at all... and Gzira is really a good place for holidaymakers, and the Bayview one of the best places I can imagine.

Room Tip: I definitely recommend choosing rooms facing the waterfront, although they may be slightly more expe...

Highly reccommend the Bayview. We stayed for 6 night as part of a group of 9. The first apartment was up a very steap hill clearly not suitable for granny so requested another suitable room. This was arranged and we moved into our new room without any problems. Even had a lovely man who assisted with our luggage. The room was very clean, and spacious. Only complaint was the cooker took ages to heat up and the lift was rather slow. reception staff were very helpful and language was certainly never a barrier. We had breakfast at the Oblico almost every morning. The staff were very friendly and helpful. If only the food was hot when it arrived. We often found the coffee was luke warm and served luke warm beans with cold toast. They were clearly rushed off their feet as staffing levels seemed low. Location is perfect for long strolls along the harbour.
If you are planning on going on excursions be mindful that the rep will not tell you that the harbour cruise involves sitting on a boat for 4 hours before even getting to the islands! Lots of sea sick passengers. Although there were plenty of sick bags at hand!!! Fab holiday enjoyed by all the group.

Extremely clean self catering apartment on the seafront overlooking the marina. We paid for the view, and it was well worth it! We were on the top floor and had a nice large balcony on the front and a small balcony in the back, so we could see nearly 360 degrees around the resort. There are a number of good and less good points about the Apartments, which you need to bear in mind when booking
GOOD
a) helpful staff in hotel (100m away) and the cleaner was amazing: we loved the animals she made out of the towels
b) the apartment is large and it was quiet. We slept very well.
c) decent cooker and freezer/ fridge and washing machine.
d) the location is great: near the buses to most places on the island, ferries to the capital and elsewhere, and if you are energetic you can even walk to Valletta. The town is a great place to be - good supermarkets, places to eat and good shops.
e) you can pre- book transfers from the airport with the hotel, and they are there when you arrive. This was, as the whole booking procedure was, really easy and very professional.

LESS GOOD
a) some of the furniture is a little bashed about, and our room smelt as though previous people had smoked in it/on the balcony with the door open. This did not bother us one jot, but I know many other would not like it
b) kitchen equipment in terms of crockery, chopping board, pans etc is a little limited, esp. when one considers the quality of cooker etc.
c) you need to put a returnable deposit down for a hair dryer, iron and even the remote controls for the tv if you want to use them. This is a bit odd, but I suppose it is a way that they keep costs down. They did explain this when we checked in, and the collecting and returning of equipment was hassle free.

So in short, the less good are heavily outweighed by the good, especially when you consider how good value it is. Go for the delux apartments if you can, go aware that you might not be able to cook complex meals with the equipment provided, and good and have a great holiday - we did!

My wife, baby, and I stayed in the Annex of Bayview Hotel, there was free WiFi in the room, which was nice. I think in the main building it was 1 euro for 20 minutes of access. The room was large and had a kitchenette and private bath. There was street parking, within a couple of blocks of the hotel, but there's a little sidewalk across from the Annex where you can pull over and unload your car. We took a ferry from Sicily and had our car with us, driving on the left side of the road took some getting used to, but it was well worth it to have a car on Malta and Gozo. Being in Sliema was good for access to/from the ferry we took from Sicily. We ended up driving to Marsaxlokk (20 minutes) for dinner both nights we stayed in Malta, the seafood was great the first night and all right the second night (different place). Sliema is about 45 minutes from the ferry to Gozo, so that's convenient as well.

Room Tip: Get a room at the Annex for free WiFi

We have just returned from 1 week stay in 2 bed SC apartment, literally 100m to the left of Bayview main building. Very practical & spacious accommodation, ideal for our children (5 & 4 years old) - not at all claustrophobic unlike previous experiences elsewhere. Excellent views over the harbour and a great location whether you want to spend days in Sliema or travel further afield - excellent transport links literally on doorstep. The staff were very friendly & helpful in our experience - I broke my arm on day out to Valletta and staff very helpful liaising with hospital. If Malta is the place for you, we would highly recommend Bayview!
