I got an internal room on "the shaft" and the shaft is what I got. The dingly, dank room smelled bad, the toilet was very hard to flush, the heater didn't work and worse there was mildew/mold, lots of it, growing on the large panel at the head of the bed. And people (chamber maids hopefully) kept opening the door repeatedly, starting at about 9am (no "do not disturb sign" to hang). Jackhammers starting first thing in the morning (although this is not the hotels fault - major construction going on outside). I am a budget traveler and not a complainer but I have to say I wasn't happy with my stay there. It is a shame because the location is excellent, the price was great and the front desk staff were pleasant and helpful.

Room Tip: The better rating seem to come from those with the sea view rooms. I got an internal room on what t...

we booked a week at this hotel despite reading some bad reports on it, I should have taken notice of the reports, the room was dirty the bathroom was dirty and worst of all when I leaned on the balcony rail it was loose and moved about 6 inches outwards, the lifts in this place are tiny and don't work all of the time, the shower tray was held together with silicone, the shower head was black with dirt, it was so bad that we moved to another rhotel and paid again.

Room Tip: choose another rhotel.

We stayed here for 3 weeks to escape January blues and certainly achieved that. As previous reviewers have described this is a very clean 3* Hotel. We asked for superior seaview room and was given one of Floor 7. Amazing view and balcony with two chairs and table made for some lovely relaxing days watching the world go by in sun. Having tea/coffee/fridge facilities great as could stock up on any extras! We booked as room only so we could choose whether or when to use hotel breakfast -and we found Cafe Cuba just block away did excellent Breakfast Bagel with coffee for 2.50euro. Overlooking the marina with its excellent promenade (recently repaved) was great for morning run/walk. You must use the buses or local ferry as although they are the new bendy buses they run regularly and cheap.(Lost the character of the old Buses but more comfortable) Found all staff very accommodating. Cleaning of room with regular changing of sheets/towels very good.
The only gripe we have is that we were not warned by Booking Agent or Hotel that they were relaying the roads - both opposite lanes and outside lanes so we had constant roadworks the whole 3 weeks. However once passed initial early 'awakening' time you realise you are overlooking a main road so people go to work. TAKE EARPLUGS. Also handy as some fellow guests let us know they were back from nightout.
Recommend you try 'Tony's Bar' for afternoon drinks and Georgios for evening meal - both excellent value. Also must visit Fort Retina if interested in the Island history to see the restoration and 100-ton gun in this fort. Great demonstrations held twice weekly.

I booked this hotel on the net for a weeks escape from the cold in the UK. Check in was flawless, room was a sea view on the fourth floor, breakfast has been everything i expected, even a personable attempt at a English breakfast. Room cleaning has been very good, all in all an excellent choice for the price. The location is perfect to explore Malta, make sure you buy the 12 Euro bus pass to see everything.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view which means the sliema creek harbour with a great view over to Valletta

I recently stayed in this hotel with my elderly mother. The reviews were not great but location was described as very good.. We had a superior room with a sea view, balcony, fridge, tea making facilities, two lifts to all floors, clean appearance, helpful staff. There were workmen across the road making a bit of noise, but the work had to be done at some point , so November being a quieter month was ideal. Rather than complain, as many people who write reviews would do, my mother enjoyed watching the work activities and regularly checked their progress. This is called positive thinking. The tour buses left from across the street and we had to walk about 200 yds for the Arriva buses or the ferry across to Valletta. There was a small bus to take you as far as they could up into Valletta, this was one euro. We later found that there was a no 22 bus which took you round the lower level on Valletta, worth knowing if visiting the Malta Experience, cruise ships etc. The temperature was around 24 to 26 deg during the day and maybe 17 deg C at night.

Room Tip: Road noise, which we chose to ignore, on the front. quiet smaller rooms on the back.

Let's be clear: this is a 3 star hotel so if you're looking for something a bit more upmarket, then you need to look elsewhere - maybe at the Fortina up the road. We paid a bit extra for a sea view and specified that we wanted two single beds and either the 5th or 6th floor. Our room was 506 and met all our expectations. Facilities were adequate and it was nice to have a kettle with tea and coffee supplied. The bathroom certainly needed updating but it was OK. The cleaners were delightful and friendly and changed the towels and sheets every day (though one towel had a hole in it!) We always take earplugs and certainly used them here due to road noise and some work re-laying pavements. It also helps drown out snoring husband.

Several other contributors have grumbled about the breakfast buffet and I agree it would get monotonous if you stayed longer than a week. However, on some days there was a choice of bacon and baked beans which was a welcome change from the usual ham and cheese. Even that was OK once I figured that the so-called toaster was actually a grilled sandwich maker, so hey cheese and ham toastie for breakfast - fine! The location is just perfect. You can get the open top tourist buses as well as the local buses and the ferry to Valetta just across the road. Nice choice of restaurants within easy walking distance and worth exploring to find the Salusbury Arms pub. Great holiday and I recommend the Marina if you can put up with the lack of 5 star glitz.

Room Tip: Choose a seaview and floor 5 or 6.
