“Great location and service, decent rooms.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

We arrived to the Hotel prior to the check in time after not having slept for 36 hrs or so. We were very tired and just wanted to go lay down. I explained this to the receptionist and they changed our room so that we could check in immediately. The good service continued from there. They helped with the standard stuff, directions, resturants, tours, etc. But they also printed our boarding passes for our flight which went above and beyond. Very nice lobby and decent food at the pool bar. The rooftop pool is VERY nice! Two large pools, plenty of deck space, small pool bar with decent food, and an amazing view of the city and ocean. It is the highest point in Sliema.

The rooms were pretty big for European standards. TV but only news channels in English. My biggest complaints were there is no Wi-Fi access in the room (only in the lobby) and the floor of the bathroom will get soaked when you shower. There is like a 12in glass "door" extending from the wall which does absolutely nothing. You basically get water everywhere when you take a shower and no amount of towels will keep it from soaking everything. This was pretty annoying.

Overall I would still recommend this hotel. Rooms are kind of old but most people won't be too bothered unless you're used to 5 star hotels. The pool area with the view and the excellent service we received made up for any complaints. Also in a great location with plenty of shops/bars/restaurants in walking distance.

WARNING: DO NOT GO TO MARINALAND (or something like that) to "swim" with dolphins. Absolutely the worst thing I've ever done after visiting 40+ countries. We paid $120 per person to have a 20-30 min dolphin show. This really mean Italian lady yells at you and the most interaction you have with he dolphins is when the set their head on your lap and you pet them for 10 seconds. They snap a pic and try and charge 20euros for it. Biggest waste of time and money.

My husband and I have just returned from a 7 night stay at The Victoria. I think that the excellent rating says it all. We arrived at 3.30 in the early hours of the morning but the staff on reception were very pleasant and gave us lots of information about the hotel and the local area. Our room was very clean, spacious, had lots of storage and air conditioning, which is essential for the summer months. The bathroom was large and again very clean. The staff are exceptional, they are friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them. The facilities are wonderful, the infinity pool on the top floor is fantastic and the shaded sun beds are a welcome relief from the blistering heat. It was our first time in Malta but it certainly will not be the last and we would not stay anywhere else. We would certainly recommend ths hotel to anyone considering visiting Malta.

Stayed nine nights at the Victoria Hotel and have nothing but good things to say about this hotel.

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood, the room was large and comfortable. Others have raved about the pools so I needn't go into that here, except to say that I agree.

It's a short walk down to the sea front restaurants, shopping, ferries and buses. It was nice to walk back to the hotel through quite streets soaking-in the atmosphere of little Malta. Glad I didn't stay in the tourist zoo areas of St. Julian's/Paceville etc. I might try their sister hotel, The Palace, which is half a block away, but would not hesitate to return to the Victoria.

The staff was very helpful and made my stay a pleasant one.

flying in and out of Malta twice a month, Air Malta put me in the Victoria overnight waiting from my onward flight the next day. Service is good, food is great, staff are great, rooms are super with large bathrooms and A/C (in the summer it's needed) and 2 minutes walk you are at the water front.
Well worth a visit to Malta and make the hotel top of your list!

Last stayed 18 to 27 July 2012. My 5th stay in the last 12 months. It is my Hotel of choice to stay in Malta as it is close enough to everything to be handy and far enough away to be quiet and at sensible commercial prices. The rooms are what you hope for and when it comes to the weekend when all the facilities are there. Where The Victoria excels is in the service provided at all levels with charm and a smile. I arrived on one trip with no luggage thanks to Air Malta and at 2:00am the reception staff found an emergency shaving kit and tooth brush and toothpaste for me within 5 minutes and then made chasing phone calls the next day to help reunite with me with me case.
If the measure of a business is how well it recovers a situation if something has gone wrong then The Victoria gets 5 stars from me. My best compliment is that I have another trip to Malta during August and I am already booked to go back to the Victoria.

Room Tip: Any superior room with a balcony will help make your stay a good one

Thoroughly enjoyable ten days here in early July: a firm 8/10 or 4.5/5.

My chief criticism is that we were had to return: the hotel could benefit from some kind of existentialist time-warp service, where guests weren't REALLY under the illusion they soon to departing from the dreary, drab shores of Great Britain.

From check-in, we enjoyed superb hospitality, friendliness and staff who appeared to genuinely enjoy their job. That's hard to come by in other destinations. A special mention goes to Charles, who epitomised the very best in the generous levy of Maltese friendliness upon it’s many tourists.

Malta - and it's bucolic sister, Gozo - is a terrific and surprisingly refined destination and one I shall anticipate returning to. Just don’t expect a surfeit of verdant greenery and undulating vistas - just as much as you should be grateful for the absence of chalky pasty-white British tourists across this lovely bigger-than-you-think island (save for noted resorts like Bugibba, which did, to the casual eye in passing, appear nice enough, though also appeared leaning the less refined) but DO expect; excellent home-grown (and home-made) grub, Sunkist weather, sublimely warm transparent sea (replete with the odd jellyfish, apparently), and a super-relaxed ambiance. Which, coming from the hype of London, was very, very welcome.

Back to The Victoria: OK, the rooms do merit European 4-star, and in British terminology, 3-star. The bed comfy, the bathrooms a little drab, the air condition strained and struggled to keep us the right side of cool during the hot season (it must be noted: Malta was suffering a heat wave and it was unusually hot), but the general ambiance of the hotel was wonderful. Even the dark corridors gave it an exclusive feel.

It should be emphasised, also, that the 5-star Palace hotel adjoins the Victoria, and that the facilities seem to be shared. I enjoyed the gymnasium (possibly the best view from a gym), relaxing in the (sadly not-so-quiet no-noise relaxation spa – note to staff: perhaps do a little more to gently “enforce” noticed noise levels), the mid-terrace pool and the mesmerising infinity pool on the top floor, which seem to service customers from both the Victoria, The Palace and the neighbouring Capula. Just wonderful. Not cheap, but worthwhile: top-notch service – thanks again ;)

The service at the Palace hotel was superb and we enjoyed many a (very late) evening sitting on the Terrance watching the lights of Valetta to one side, and the coast to the other. It really was beautiful. Aided, naturally, by the not inexpensive wine-list.

But perhaps the biggest compliment I can give the Victoria is the hospitality. You felt nothing was ever too much, and for the price we paid, it represented really great value.

We’ll definitely be returning. Let’s hope there’s a fan in the bedroom next time! ;-)

Room Tip: 4th floor, perfect if you're not a fan of elevators and power cuts

The Victoria is about 5mins walk from the sea front if you turn right out of the hotel & the same if you turn left twice for the shops & harbour. Our room had a small balcony (which gave us shade in the afternoon), was clean, spacious, with comfortable beds, plenty of storage & really good air conditioning. The bathroom was a good size, although there was a slight leak on the basin (sorted out within a very short time) it had everything we needed, was clean, bright & had a good shower. We were booked for breakfast only & I was a little disappointed with the limited choice of fresh fruit available. There was a good selection of cold meats, cheese, breads & salad items plus sausage, bacon, fried egg, 3 cereals. The pool area had a good number of sunbeds, plenty of shade & a nice bar for snacks & food. All the staff were very friendly & always said hello. I just liked the atmosphere, an ideal holiday hotel & have already recommended the Victoria to friends. We will be back!
