“The good and the bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2012

Duration of our stay - 3 days

The good: Excellent location if you want to enjoy Rabat and visit the South-eastern side of Malta. Very good food in the Butcher's grill restaurant - however, you'll definitely wait the 40 min they mention on the menu! The breakfast was also very good. Basically all their food is really good.

The bad: Although our room was comfortable, the establishment is understaffed. One girl cleans all the rooms and she gets to it when she gets to it. The bathroom is tiny and there was never enough hot water for both my husband and myself to take a shower. Parking is nearly impossible. Although they mention that parking is available you will be extremely fortunate if you can find parking in a 6 block radius.

Overall we enjoyed the guesthouse, simply because we enjoyed the magic of Rabat where you can walk around and explore and come back to a nicely furnished guesthouse with good food, friendly staff and a nice vibe.

We stayed in this hotel in November. It was very close to the bus stop and close to the entrance to Medina. The en suite room we had on the second floor facing the parking lot was clean, simply furnished with good mattresses, a TV, and a comfy arm chair. I was worried about noise from the parking lot on Friday and Saturday night but it was not a problem. Did hear a little noise from the restaurant but it didn't disturb us. We used Rabat as a base to visit some of the surrounding area and stayed 3 nights. I hated to leave because I was so comfortable. The staff was efficient and professional but this feels more like a hotel than a guest house. The room had air conditioning and a gas heater which we did not need to try.

Breakfast was 5 Euros but well worth it - juice, fruit, cereal, eggs, meat, baked beans, grilled tomato, toast, hot beverage and was served in the restaurant. And we ate lunch there two days and really enjoyed the food. The menu had a lot of variety.

Stayed there for a couple of nights at the end of Sep. 2011. Even though we had made a reservation well in advance we got a terrible room. It was on the back of the building, and the bathroom was some kind of hybrid closet that wasn't even finished. Really poor water pressure as well. We used their restaurant only for breakfast (which was included) and the service was reasonable, however, the management was rude and not very helpful. The only positive thing about the place is the location, the main entrance to Mdina is just 50m away, however, I wouldn't stay at this place just for that reason since Mdina can be reached very easily and quickly from anywhere else on the island.

I have read some very complementary reviews about this hotel and I'm convinced that I'm reading about a different hotel. My partner and I are not particularly fussy travellers, however we found this to be one of the worst hotels we have stayed in. The room (which had been upgraded to a room with a view prior to arrival) was very basic with an "en suite" consisting of a small shack with a piece of corrugated plastic in the corner of the room. The "view" could be found on entering the 2 foot square balcony that was at the opposite end of the room to the bed. A window, which would have offered a view, was behind a large wardrobe. If you have young children steer clear of the rooms with balconies. The sheets of glass making up the windows are held in by clips which came out very easily. The room was incredibly hot and stuffy with no throughput of air. The manager always appeared slightly offended when asked anything, even when checking in. On the plus side, dinner at the restaurant was delicious and the staff were very polite and friendly. I appreciate it isn't a five star hotel, however, the place is lacking in charm, courtesy and was generally a pretty miserable experience.

We stayed one night, because we wanted to stay close to the old town.
Perfectly located for the task, the hotel itself has a curious african colonial style items.
The room was honestly priced: large and spartan, with typical maltese window, with a rear view from the historical wall. Small bathroom.
Maybe a bit too hot in summer since vents are insufficient for the whole room.
Cool personalized breakfast: they bring you what you ask, restaurant style.

Very friendly, small hotel just outside the gates to Mdina - so ideal for sightseeing in Rabat and Mdina, and for catching buses to other parts of the Island.
Plenty of choice at breakfast, and the evening meal that we had there was also excellent; fresh fish, very tasty and well presented.
Our bedroom had fantastic views over the Island and was very clean, roomy and comfortable enough, if pretty basic. Lovely stone walls spoilt by the ugly 'meeting room' tiled ceiling and metal doors.
However, it you are not too worried by lack of luxury in the bedroom/bathroom, but are looking for good value, a welcoming atmosphere, and a convenient location - would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back with views

I was asked to pay a 50% deposit plus 3% Admin charge, on arrival I was asked to pay the balance, something I have not come across before apart from an advance booking at a deep discount - which was not the case here. The first room we were shown, with two single beds was unsatisfactory; small with windows that would not open. The latter was of concern as the heating prvided consisted of a liquid gas fire. We requested a move and were told initially that the Hotel was fully booked (in March) however after further discussion we were given a family room. The room was an improvement as it was much larger and one window opened. The rooms are basic, painted stone/concrete block wall, metal like doors and composite wood furniture with a laminate surface. The beds are firm and average to small in size. The double bed had one bedside table and an overhead strip light whose switch was on the wall near the door. The bathroom was a partitioned section in the corner of the room about 1 metre deep and 3 metres in length. The hot water was plentiful and a good pressure, the cold water was very low pressure. Consequently the shower took some time to find an accepatable mix and the cistern was slow to fill. There was a strong smell of cigarette smoke. Towels were excellent and regularly changed. Soap was provided but nothing else, there was no kettle/tea making facilities and no room service. Heating was provided by a mobile liquid gas fire and cooling by a large pedestal fan - both were in good condition.
Breakfast provided from a limited menu was freshly cooked, another plus point - warm toast was served at the end of the meal (not cold toast at the beginning as in most hotels - even 'posh' ones. Butter was provided, no jam or honey.
The rooms and hotel were very clean and the maid service very good. Staff were business like and efficient. There were a number of steps to negotiate as well as two flights. Help was offered with the cases, and accepted when we changed rooms.
The Hotel is located on a large busy car park and next to a petrol station not far from the entrance to Medina. A busy main road runs passed the other side of the Hotel beneath the rooms.
The price we paid 58 euros per night for a double room and breakfast, about average but above average for the time of year.
The Internet access worked well althouugh no printing facilites are available.

Room Tip: Ask to see the rooms first before you pay.
