Had read about this in all of the Guide Books and although we just visited for tea and cakes it lived up to its reputation. Deciding which cake to have was a very difficult decision; I had the chocolate and orange and my husband had the chocolate hazelnut. They were delicious, and the portion size was excellent. The price was very reasonable especially considering we had had coffee and (inferior) cakes earlier in the holiday in an establishment of a famous chain, which cost 150% more, was self-service and totally lacking in atmosphere. Glad we were walking around a lot, as it probably took quite a few hours to burn off the calories - but it was worth the indulgence. We were outside on the top floor of the restaurant and were afforded spectacular views of the countryside. As it was a hot and sunny day we were very glad there were so many shady places up there. Although the Fontanella was very busy we did not have to wait for a table, but we would have been glad to do so if necessary. Would certainly visit again.
