“Spoilt for choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2014

Had read about this in all of the Guide Books and although we just visited for tea and cakes it lived up to its reputation. Deciding which cake to have was a very difficult decision; I had the chocolate and orange and my husband had the chocolate hazelnut. They were delicious, and the portion size was excellent. The price was very reasonable especially considering we had had coffee and (inferior) cakes earlier in the holiday in an establishment of a famous chain, which cost 150% more, was self-service and totally lacking in atmosphere. Glad we were walking around a lot, as it probably took quite a few hours to burn off the calories - but it was worth the indulgence. We were outside on the top floor of the restaurant and were afforded spectacular views of the countryside. As it was a hot and sunny day we were very glad there were so many shady places up there. Although the Fontanella was very busy we did not have to wait for a table, but we would have been glad to do so if necessary. Would certainly visit again.

“Food with a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2014

This place is worth a visit just for the spectacular views, but on top of that they have great food. I usually opt for some sort of cake but their other food is just as good. There is nothing negative to say about this place.

“Good food good service great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

I ordered the pizza w/c was great but my wife and I found her fishermans baguette a little too rich for our tastes.

Quick tip - all the spots on the roof with a great view were in the sun (the umbrellas can not be moved apparently) but we went up to the smoking section which had better umbrella coverage and enjoyed it there because there was no one smoking and even if there was the gentle breeze would have mitigated that

“Nice view and food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

Really a nice view to all Malta as it is situated in the Bastione. you can order food for lunch or cakes/tea always during the day. We had a lunch with good pizza, ricotta pastizzi and ftiras tipical Malta's food, everything was good! The only problem is that there are a lot of beas especially in the lowest part of the bar.

“Fairly good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

Ok, what we like is the location and the beautiful view.
But this place always seem to be overcrowded, therefore service tends to get slower. In our opinion the food in general is average, depending on the person's tastebuds and knowledge about the making of the food and use of ingredients.
Would recommend for a coffee or a cool drink while enjoying the view if you are lucky to find a place on the higher level.
