“Very comfortable and clean accommodation and friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2010

The farmhouse accommodation is in fact a collection of houses and apartments all with their own swimming pool. The properties are well maintained and comfortable and Monica who manages the business is very friendly and helpful as are the other staff. The properties also have a lovely view of the countryside. It is a short walk to the village square in Xaghra where there are several nice restaurants and bars and no distance by car to the other towns and villages on the Island.

We had a really great week in Gozo. The island is beautiful and mostly untouched by (mass) tourism. What a difference with busy Malta! The sceneries are spectacular; lots to see and to do, actually surprising for such a small island. The food is diverse, of good quality and affordable (I had the cheapest coffee in years on a terrace facing the sea in Marsalforn!). A week there is much too short to fully appreciate and discover Gozo! And what can I say about the seas! The diving there is splendid. Everything is made even better by the warm welcome of Monica Bigeni and her staff. Always there if your need anything. The house is really nice and private and the setting is perfect: everyday enjoying the sunset and the spectacular views of the island by the pool, Victoria at your feet, the sea; great!
Little minus point: I wouldn’t advise Gozo if your kids need a busy social/night life and shopping your hobby , then is Gozo not the place to be. Gozo is all about enjoying the surroundings and its people and taking the time to enjoy life. A precious moment of peace in our much too busy lives.

Upon walking through a lovely entrance we found our farmhouse - Ta’ Xmun. This farmhouse served all of our purposes. It was clean and well taken care of. There were 3 bedrooms and all had an ensuit bathroom to them. As we were 3 couples this served as very well as we did not have to share any bathrooms. Downstairs there is a spare toilet near the living area so that you do not have to go up should you need the restroom.

Ta Xmun has a perfect location if you are a nature lover as you can go for long walks in the country side and the environment is really peacful. All the shops such as grocery stores or restaurants, are in walking distance from the farmhouse about 10 to 15 minutes if you pace up alittle

As soon as you go out to terrace area, the first impression you get is ' this is not such a big terrace for 6 people!' but you forget all about that as soon as you set your eyes upon the view below. Then you realize that there would be no use of having a massive terrace when you have such a grand view to compensate for it.

The view of Gozo is impressively green and dramatic, and all you would need is a glass of wine and a deckchair to appreciate it more.

The office is only 2mins away from the farmhouse. We lost our key and the owner immediately gave us a new one when we went
I have kept details of this farmhouse as we would return to it if we visit Gozo again in the future

We'd read some of the negative reviews and were slightly nervous of what to expect. But we'd received assurances before we booked so took the plunge.

The farmhouses proved to be larger than we'd expected, with 4 good size bedrooms (if you go in the height of the summer make sure to grab the downstairs bedrooms as these are significantly cooler than those upstairs). The kitchen area is functional and the living space is fine (we didn't spend much time indoors except to sleep). Underground parking is a bonus and it's a lovely walk through a flowered passage to the front doors.

The pool isn't olympic size but does allow you to quickly cool off when it gets too hot. The terrace overlooks a lovely valley across to the hill top village of Zeebug. If you're sneeky you can pick figs from a bush that's just below the terrace. Again you need to manage the space well if there's 8 of you, but the beds were comfortable and the sun is on the terrace throughout the day.

Monica, who looked after us, and is onsite everyday' couldn't do enough to help. She found us fans to help keep the air flow going at night for all the upstairs bedrooms (not needed downstairs); she made sure the pool was maintained (not easy with 7 bodies covered in sun tan lotion, dipping in every 20 minutes) and offered lots of local advice on places to go.

The kitchen was well stocked for plates and knives, etc. The sharper knives aren't great so if you cook at the farmhouse you may want to pack a sharp knife.

For the money, we thought this was a great spot. Easy access to all the main attractions and villages. Nice litte square with the opportunity to get fresh fruit from a couple of mobile stalls everyday from 08:00 a.m.

There's access to the internet in the reception area.

We have returned yesterday from Ir-Ruman Farmhouse, one of the several in this cluster of farmhouses.

First of all you feel like you're being watched all the time, cause when you're trying to sunbathe in the so called 'private pool' you're being faced with the so called handyman doing the works and checking on you!

Secondly, we reported that there was not toaster, not even a proper knife to chop any items, the fridge was not closing properly and the light in the pool was not working.

The handyman came to try and repair the lights but still they didn't work. We were told that a technician will come to see to the refrigerator but nobody turned up. When we tried calling the owner on Sunday she didn't even answer her phone!

Place was not clean, I ended up washing the place myself as I have a small child which I couldn't leave running around in dust.

The place looked like it hasn't been cleaned for ages. Even the pool was filthy.

The barbecue is just a gas plate on a piece of stone, you can hardly call it a barbecue.

Not enough pegs to hang your towels to dry.

We weren't even provided with any towels, bath mats or towels to dry up the plates.

We also ended up our things getting rotten in the refrigerator as it wasn't closing properly.

A badly run place!

Having spent ages looking at different farmhouses on the internet I settled on bella vista farmhouse and was very happy with my choice until about 2 weeks before my holiday when I read the 2 bad reviews. I contacted Monica who runs the farmhouses with my concerns and she convinced me we would have a good holiday and thankfully we did.
The farmhouse we stayed in was exactly like the web site and clean both inside and out. The pool was clean when we arrived and cleaned again mid week. These farmhouses are quite rustic which is what we wanted if you care more about modern luxuries like dishwashers and microwaves then perhapes they are not for you but if you want rustic accomodation in a peaceful setting with great views then give them a try.
We did have one problem with the shower and reported it to Monica and it was fixed that day.
