My wife and I stayed at the Calypso Hotel, Marsalforn for four nights (25th February to 1st March). The sea view room we were allocated (418) and its bathroom were both extremely clean. There was free (and very speedy) WiFi. The television although not a flat-screen and with rather limited choice of channels could, nevertheless, pick up two BBC channels (and other channels). I have a severe back problem and I found the bed very hard indeed. After three nights of pain my wife asked at reception if anything could be done and the mattress was either changed (or a foam upper put over it). The fourth night was bliss and we wish we had asked earlier. The breakfast buffet was very good (much better then we were expecting in the light of some of the earlier comments) with a wide choice of things to eat and drink - juices, cereals, fresh fruit, cooked items (such as bacon and scrambled egg - a chef would prepare your eggs to the style you wanted), breads, pastries etc. The staff that we spoke to were all charming and could not have been more helpful. Being late February, we did not attempt to use the modest open-air swimming pool on the sixth floor (we dipped our fingers in but found it very cold indeed). We would have liked the room safe to be free (as it is in many hotels) - there was both a charge of about €5.15, as well as a refundable deposit, if you wished to use it (we decided not to). We did not take lunch or dinner in the hotel restaurant but, instead, ate at a couple of the very close restaurants (pizzas at the Muerella Restaurant - which is attached to the Calypso - were absolutely excellent). We also had a very pleasant lunch at Chez Armand (which is about two kilometres away from the Calypso Hotel and central Marsalforn). Whilst in the hotel we looked at the rooms without a sea view room and would advise against booking one of these because the view from these rooms is across a very narrow road at a block of buildings very close to the Calypso Hotel. If a less-expensive option is necessary, take one of these rooms but it really is worth paying more for a room with a sea view. If you have not been to Gozo and Malta before, we would advise asking the hotel to arrange taxis from the airport across Malta to the ferry and from the ferry to the hotel (about €40 each way plus return fare of €4.65 for the ferry) As my wife's mother retired to live on Gozo (and we have consequently been there a number of times before), we did not take this option. However we wished we had because - in both directions - we had major problems using the X1 Airport/Ferry bus. All in all, we were very happy with our short stay at the Calypso Hotel and we will certainly stay there on our next visit to Gozo.
Chose a sea view room and avoid the land view rooms.
