“Exquisite hotel where you'd least expect it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

By far the cosiest, most welcoming little boutique hotel I've ever stayed at! The staff are warm and friendly, the decor is simply gorgeous and the rooms are adorable! A small but functional ensuite with the most luxurious shower to warm you up after a day of exploring. Head down to the bar/reception for a drink and a chat with the staff. They were more than happy to share their advice of places to see and things to do. The organic, locally sourced and healthy breakfast is a perfect start to the day, along with the best coffee I've had since arriving in Iceland! Do yourself a favour and stay at the Hotel Egilsen!!

Room Tip: Room 3 is spacious with plenty of room for luggage. The bed is so comfortable and ensuite is user fr...

The staff at this hotel is top notch. They were kind and helpful and very proud of this special place. It is a beautiful hotel that offers organic towels, bedding and bathroom products. Breakfast was fresh and delicious, including homemade bread and jam. I would have liked to stay longer.

Exquisite hotel - full of character, beautifully restored, yet comfortable and incredibly chic. Cool, friendly staff, clearly utterly invested in the hotel - never intrusive but always ready to help. We chose it as a special treat during our honeymoon, and they'd left chocolates roses and a bowl of fresh strawberries in our room on arrival. We borrowed the hotel's (excellent) mountain bikes and cycled out to Helgafell; also had the famous breakfast both days. Very much worth the extra cost, especially in a town with quite limited culinary options. Wonderful to speak to the proprietor Greta too. Nicest hotel in Iceland?

This hotel is by far the best hotel we stayed at whilst in Iceland. We stayed at a lot of hotels during our four weeks drive around the country. The service is friendly and the breakfast was delicious. The home made blueberry jam was sooo good! Can't wait to come back and stay again!

Upon arrival we immediately felt walued and taken care of. We were given a nice room on the top floor. Not very big, but everything we needed were there, and it was elegantly decorated and clean. Throughout the stay the receptionist paid us attention every time we passed through the reception.

We warmly recommend this hotel to anyone planning to go to this area!

Perfectly charming hotel. Very well designed and comfortable. The staff is friendly and efficient. The building is interesting. Ask for room 5, the biggest (the other rooms are quite small) with great view over the harbour. The town is worth exploring. Warning: the hotel is expensive, but so's everything in Iceland.

Arrived late afternoon. note at desk to call clerk.. She arrived in 15 minutes allowed us to pick our room on SE street side, She opened the breakfast area so we could heat water for coffee or tea. Got us a large container which she filled with ice. This hotel is very close to the ferry port which is why the village probably exists.

Room Tip: Shades are not light blockout so may need sleeping mask.
