We stayed here 2 nights in January 2014. This hotel was called Hotel Vik i Myrdal but was bought by a chain so now it is called Hotel Edda Vik. This is the first winter season they are open, and there weren't too many other guests. We stayed in the corner room in the new building and it was amazing. Beautiful views over the beach and sea stacks. Heated floors, Comfortable bed. WiFi, Awesome rain shower. Very clean. No coffee maker, but a teapot to heat water and instant coffee and tea was provided.
The breakfast was a bountiful buffet, we enjoyed the toast with smoked salmon, skyr, coffee fruit and waffles very much. I think it was $30 per person, but nothing in Iceland is cheap.
The entire staff is amazing. Everyone there was genuinely friendly and warm. I would like to go back and hang out with them again. Vik is a beautiful little beach town, close to the southern ring road waterfalls, the glaciers, and about 15 min to Dyrholaey. We did a 6 hour super jeep tour with Katlatrack and had a wonderful day.
There is an Vikurprjon store across the street from the hotel, you can buy local wool, knick knacks and Ice Wear products there. There are 2 restaurants in town, I can't remember the names, both have excellent food. And the gas station next to the wool store has a small grill, and the best soup I ever ate. Ever. Once again, it's not cheap. My bowl of (excellent) gas station soup and a Pepsi was like $17.
I loved our stay in Vik and I loved Hotel Edda Vik! Will be back for sure.
