“Beautiful Hotel Edda in Vik”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2014

We stayed here 2 nights in January 2014. This hotel was called Hotel Vik i Myrdal but was bought by a chain so now it is called Hotel Edda Vik. This is the first winter season they are open, and there weren't too many other guests. We stayed in the corner room in the new building and it was amazing. Beautiful views over the beach and sea stacks. Heated floors, Comfortable bed. WiFi, Awesome rain shower. Very clean. No coffee maker, but a teapot to heat water and instant coffee and tea was provided.

The breakfast was a bountiful buffet, we enjoyed the toast with smoked salmon, skyr, coffee fruit and waffles very much. I think it was $30 per person, but nothing in Iceland is cheap.

The entire staff is amazing. Everyone there was genuinely friendly and warm. I would like to go back and hang out with them again. Vik is a beautiful little beach town, close to the southern ring road waterfalls, the glaciers, and about 15 min to Dyrholaey. We did a 6 hour super jeep tour with Katlatrack and had a wonderful day.

There is an Vikurprjon store across the street from the hotel, you can buy local wool, knick knacks and Ice Wear products there. There are 2 restaurants in town, I can't remember the names, both have excellent food. And the gas station next to the wool store has a small grill, and the best soup I ever ate. Ever. Once again, it's not cheap. My bowl of (excellent) gas station soup and a Pepsi was like $17.

I loved our stay in Vik and I loved Hotel Edda Vik! Will be back for sure.

Spent a night here to break a trip between airport and Jökulsárlón. There were a few accommodation available but since I'll be arriving closer to evening time and I'll be tired, I wanted something that's fairly easy to find and comfy.

Hotel has updated and modern rooms that they have upgraded and renovated since. I was lucky that they gave me a newer room with a view of the ocean. Room has free wi-fi, LCD screen, coffee/tea maker and large windows. Weather was bad -- it rain continuously and so windy that I didn't bother to go see the ocean side. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Staff are very friendly and will help you with anything you need. Vik is about 2.5 hours to Jökulsárlón (Ice Lagoon).

We stayed here to break up a drive from the airport to hofn. It was very nice and one of the better accommodations Iceland has outside of Reykjavikwhere tourism still hasnt developed yet. We found it a little tricky to find given our paperwork said it was called Hotel Vik, yet all the signs and literature when we got there gave the name Hotel Edda! Something I wish we had known. The room was comfortable and the bathroom nice, even though I didnt get to use the shower, it looked good. We still arent sure the situation surrounding the restaurant, we were told there was one yet when we arrived we were told it wasnt open, even though people were sitting in eating. Maybe the staff just didnt want to cook again for us?? Breakfast was the usual continental, with plenty to choose from. I would definitely recommend this place, it was the highest standard of all the accommodations we stayed in in Sotuh and East Iceland.

We had a lovely stay here in January, spacious rooms, comfortable bed, large shower, the best we had in Iceland, view of the Rock stacks. Service was good for the most part, fresh towels each day though the room was not really cleaned each day (we could have used a broom to clean up the black sand from our shoes after walking the beach. We chose to have our meals here. Also well prepared. Generous breakfast even with a waffle maker!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view toward the rock stacks (2nd floor.)

We stayed in this hotel in November 2013, travelled as a couple. The part of the hotel we stayed in was very modern - huge windows, modern rooms with funky stump tables. Very nice size bathroom with shower. TV with some English channels were a benefit, however definitely not needed if you in Iceland. The hotel is just off the main route 1, opposite "The Grill". There was not many people staying at the time we were there and it was quite and peaceful. The staff was fantastic, very patient and answered 100s of my questions. Also organised no-flour based breakfast for me which was very nice.
I think, some parts of the hotel can be less modern, however cannot be sure whether that is the case.
Breakfast is good, however no hot food (apart of waffles) is served but it is a very good selection of continental food, but you can also get e.g. herring.
Will definitely recommend.
Also Vik, the small village is very pretty, must see beaches around - be aware of huge waves.

Excellent new hotel. Amazing helpful staff. Comparable to any big chain hotels. the hotel makes a good choice for a layover if you are planning to break your drive from east to west iceland as it is on the main road right across a gas station and roughly half way through from hofn to reykjavik.
Vik is a really small town with just 1-2 restaurants (and they are a good15-20 mins walk from this hotel).

Best hotel we stayed in during our trip to Iceland!
-great value for money
-Huge room
-So new and modern
-bathroom clean and beautiful
-Amazing location, right off road 1 and on our way to glacier lagoon
-great view of the water
-restaurant grill across the street (expensive but thats iceland for you)
-breakfast, yummy :) They even had a waffle maker mmmmm

We knew we wanted to go to glacier lagoon so we planned our trip so the first night we stayed in KEF, then the 2nd night we stayed here, and the 3rd night we stayed in REYK.

This was amazing as we werent overly tired any day from driving too much. This is the perfect halfway stop to glacier lagoon.
