We stayed for one night a couple weeks ago in a triple room and it was great. I highly recommend this hotel if you’re looking to stay in the Vik area. Friendly staff, clean spacious rooms (all décor in the hotel looks like a page out of the Ikea catalog), free wifi, good variety of options in the buffet style breakfast and great location.
Everything in Iceland is a little quieter in the winter so we found our dinner options to be very limited in Vik (looked like there were 2 small restaurants open that didn’t look too appealing) so we had dinner at the hotel which was good – arctic char, salad, potatoes. The Volcano Hotel is in a great location for exploring the black sand beaches and picturesque areas around Vik. If I were to do it again, I’d stay for 2 nights to be able to do the glacier hike from the Volcano Hotel on one day then drive out to Jokularson Glacier Lagoon the next day. We weren’t able to do the glacier hike and I know we missed out…next time!
I’ve traveled a lot and am fairly picky when it comes to hotels and I would definitely stay at the Volcano Hotel again. Highly recommend it.
Tip: the hotel is located about 6 miles before Vik and has a small sign next to the road so pay attention or you’ll easily drive right past it. The hotel is about a 2.5 hour drive from the airport. The drive is pretty and there are a few waterfalls to stop and checkout along the way.
