We stayed 3 nights in Room 7 in Feb. 2013. The hotel is run by a wonderful couple, Johanne and Margret. The room was large, bright, comfortable, and clean. Johanne took us (hubby, I and our 9 year old daughter) on a glacier hike. He was wonderful, informative, careful, and super with our little girl. Margret was a wonderful cook. We ate at the hotel for 2 nights. For both nights, my daughter requested roasted chicken and rice for dinner (her favorite food at home) and Margret made it for her even though it was not on her menu. Great place!
Vik is gorgeous. We went to the black pebble beach and we also visited Dyrholay. Gorgeous! We also drove to Jokulsarlon. Unbelievably beautiful. Make sure you walk down to the beach and see the stranded icebergs. We went on 2 separate days and the scene was noticeably different. One day, the beach was littered with small, white or clear icebergs. The next time, there were a number of large blue icebergs. We got some awsome photos!
At the last day, we decided to cancel our hotel at Hella and book a place in Laugar, near Lake Myvan, for a chance to see the Northern Lights and more of Iceland. Well, turns out the hotel we picked was run by Johanne's cousin! Johanne made the call for us and confirmed our room. I am happy to report that not only did we have a very comfortable stay, we also saw the Northern Lights!!! The East Fjords and the Northern Plains of Iceland are incredibly beautiful. If you have a car and the time, try to drive the entire Ring Road. It is well worth the effort!
