“Lovely rooms, friendly staff and good food!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2011

Unusual hotel in that the rooms are in a seperate house away from the reception and restaurant. the room we had were of an excellent qualiity. Fine linen, feather and down quilts, quality fittings and fixtures, immaculate cleanliness. No, even minor, downsides to the rooms!

The restaurant was also of a very high quality, with attentive and intelligent, happy staff. Both dinner and breakfast were very pleasurable experiences. This even extended to 2 weeks after we stayed we were walking around Reykjavik on the evening before the flight when the waiter from the Aldan ran up and said hello and enquired as to how much we had enjoyed our trip... !

if you are travelling around the east of iceland make sure to stay here! Highly recommended!

Great night's sleep in cozy piles of feather blankets. The windows face onto beautiful evergreens and tall, beautiful fjord walls with waterfalls everywhere. Dinner was a delicious ginger carpaccio with saffron cod and there were even salads with every course! Worth the money.

Room Tip: Very comfortable, clean and restful

Nice hotel, 2 different types of accomodation, one less expensive but not less good than the pricy one.
Nice, well furnished room. Very comfortable bed (regular double bed size, not French size!).
Nice town. Quiet location.
Excellent restaurant. Breakfast and wi-fi included.
Small bathroom, tiny sink (as almost everywhere in Iceland!), but overall a good choice.

Dinner at the restaurant, as mentioned by other review, was excellent. The hotel staff was indeed extremely friendly. The room - beautifully furnished, and very cute. The town itself is charming – excellent choice for east Iceland (don't sleep in Egilsstadir - which is much less beautiful).

We stayed in the cottage.
It was great family option as we had our own space in a lovely newly renovated space.
We never got the wireless internet to work but that hardly mattered.

Room Tip: the cottage was terrific

Aldan is actually three buildings. We were in Snaefell. Room was small but very pleasant. Breakfast very good, location/setting very picturesque.

hotel aldan is organised in a strange way: the main location contains the reception and the restaurant, the rooms are in two separate buildings in different parts of the (very small) village. we got a room at what's called hotel snaefell: nice and big (maybe this is related to the fact that it was for 3 - apparently they run out of doubles) on the second floor.
it had a very small bathroom, that's not nice but it looks like it's the standard in iceland for ensuites.
