The Herring Era Museum in Siglufjordur is a great museum. We were just cruising route 76 when passing Siglufjordur on our way to Skagafjordur. Last minute we decided to visit this museum. The museum has a big collection, is very interactive and has a great atmosphere. It's a museum with a distinctive character: it's really takes you back to the golden age of herring. Especially 'the boathouse' with the old vessels and equipment was worth the trouble. Although we didn't have all the time in the world, we spend almost 3 hours in this museum. The admission is reasonable. You buy a ticket in one of the buildings and you are free to browse all three buildings. It's quite easy to find: when entering Siglufjordur from the southside (coming from the airport) it's a your left facing the harbour. When in Siglufjordur, visit this museum!
