“Comfortable, clean and friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Just returned from a three night stay. The hotel is very clean and the reception staff were always helpful and friendly and called up tour companies to see if trips were on for us etc. The gave us some good tips on places to eat. We went to the Argentina steak house which is about at 10-15 minute walk away and had four different meals between us which were all cooked to perfection and the place has a very nice ambiance. The meals cost around £40 a head including one alcoholic drink and a desert. The next night we went to The Hereford steakhouse which was slightly cheaper and they have set menu offers so you can try things like whale, puffin and deer if you would like to. We booked most of our excursions with Gateway to Iceland which we found to be very reliable, friendly and knowledgeable.
Back to the hotel - the beds were very comfortable, pillows comfortable, free wi-fi, room was nice and quiet so we were very happy. There is not a cooked breakfast available and the hotel doesn't claim to offer one but the continental breakfast available is more than enough. If you do want a cooked breakfast you can get one from a food place about 5 mins walk away. The hotel is a walk from the town centre and harbour but only a short pleasant walk. The people are all very friendly, speak good English and I cant imagine there ever being much trouble so it is a very safe place to walk around. Luckily we saw the Norther Lights on our last night - thanks to GTI. The only disappointment was that we went whale watching for 3 hours and saw nothing and it was freezing cold but that's nature for you. If we went back to Reykjavik again we would definitely go back to the Bjork hotel

This is a good place to stay if you're not looking to spend too much money on accommodation and don't mind a small room.

PROS:
+ affordable (my stay came to around $60 per night)
+ convenient location, only 5 minute walk to city centre
+ pickled herring at breakfast buffet
+ friendly and helpful front desk staff

CONS:
+ very small room (stayed in a single)
+ for some reason the maid wouldn't give me an extra towel, she said I had to exchange a dirty one for a new one.

Felt more like a boutique hotel - sort of an odd layout and side entrance.. but the front desk staff were terrific and friendly - helpful even with our parking ticket! Restaurant attached is good, breakfast was not elaborate but generous. free wifi was reliable and strong.
The room is spacious - for Europe- and serviceable for most travelers. we were in a double. non down bedding was comfortable. Bathroom has a large helpful counter, good hairdryer. Shower is awkward and smallish. water pressure decent, and plenty hot. Rooms have carpet but are not musty. Adequate closet space and plugs for electronics - bring adapters.
Our view was of back delivery courtyard but front faces busy street so was fine.
small lobby area with couch and TV for waiting or getting out of your room. Oh - room TV was like a 13" dorm TV and only 3 channels - more motivation to go outside....
Very good value, location convenient if driving. easy parking. is steps away from main shopping street, but pretty far down to walk to shops. Serviced by Reykjavik Excursions easily.

Room Tip: no gym no spa no room service. no problem.

We have just returned from Hotel Bjork and was completey satisfied. The room was basic but clean and warm. The breakfast was great. The best thing was the reception staff who were very very helpful - even more helpful than the tourist information !!! Would recommend Bjork, Reyjavik and Iceland any day to anybody - loved it.

Room Tip: Ask for aq sea view room - the view is spectacular at no extra cost !!

Most impressed. I was given a double room as an upgrade for a single. Huge room , very clean, comfortable bed . View of the back yard not great but close the curtains and it's fine. Excellent buffet style breakfast All you could eat. Amazing value ,will definitely come back. Close to the city centre, walkable, but not too close.

The room was spacious, clean, comfortable and great value. The breakfast was good, especially the fresh breads and the staff were very helpful. We arrived at 7.30am after an overnight flight from NYC and they gave us a room straight away.

The hotel was located about 10mins from the centre of time - but nothing is too far away.

It's nothing fancy, but great option for keeping the costs down.

We stayed at the Hotel Bjork for 4 days. Rooms were of modest size but clean. Staff was very helpful. Great breakfast. We had dinner in the hotel dining room one night. A Soup and Salad combination which was a great value and very tasty. Location was a bit far from the old town but certainly walkable. We arrived early in the morning before our room was available. Staff directed us to a great bakery a block away from the hotel for coffee and rolls while we waited. Sorry I don't remember the name.
