“Good hotel - fitted the bill”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

We were on a 4 night break &,although it isn't in the centre of town, the walk back along the seafront only takes about 20 minutes & there are frequent buses. There is a very good, reasonably priced restaurant a few doors along from the hotel,if you don't fancy paying Hilton prices. The breakfasts were excellent & set us up for the day. The rooms were quite spacious, warm (important in Iceland, even in May!) and very clean. Most of the staff were very helpful and efficient.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the front, as there's quite a good view of the sea.

Dear, traveler

Thank you for your recent review of our hotel, Hilton Reykjavik Nordica.
I am glad to see that you enjoyed your stay with us at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica. I noticed that you walked by the seafront from the downtown area to the hotel and I am glad that you did, since it is quite the experience. If you will ever return I advise you to walk into the opposite direction and discover all the nearby attractions. For example the Laugardalur outdoor activity park, boasting one of Reykjavik's best outdoor swimming pools, sprawling botanical gardens, amusement park and animal zoo, as well as Iceland's main sport Centre.

Warm regards,
Trausti Karlsson

The Hilton in Reykjavik is a very nice hotel. Icelandair had a video and declared it the best hotel in all of Iceland.

Room was spacious and clean, with hard wood floors and kind of sparse decoration, though it seems to fit with the Iceland 'vibe'. We had a room with 2 twin beds pushed together to make a king.

Bathroom was very large with lots of counter space for toiletries. Same bath products as Hiltons in the U.S.

Curtains are mostly room-darkening, but there are several and some light shines through the spaces where the curtains meet. Saw a review suggesting clothespins - that's a good idea. In the summer it doesn't really get dark.

The main problem was temperature control. In the winter there are radiators you can use, but in the summer all you can do is open a window. Problem is, there were only 2 small windows, which only opened about 6 inches each. And at night because it's light outside you need to close the curtains, effectively blocking the air flow. There is no A/C (understandably - why would you need it in Iceland?) but also no ceiling fan or internal air ducts with fans to move air around.

Aside from the windows not letting in a lot of air they do let in noise. It's relatively quiet overnight, but if you want to go to bed early or sleep in, you will have to deal with traffic noise if the windows are open.

And they only have thick comforters. We called and asked for lighter blankets - they don't have them. We took the duvet covers off the comforters and slept with only the duvet covers. It was very warm at night. We are from FL and are used to the heat and sleep with the AC on 70 normally, and it was apparently cold for the summer when we were there (about 50F/10C in the day, when it is usually 60F/15C) so I can't imagine how warm it must feel when the temps are normal summer temps and people are from colder climates.

Location of the hotel is outside the city center. A little far for a walk, though the hotel does offer a free bus pass. Later in our trip we stayed at a hotel just next to the city center and it was infinitely more convenient. While the hotel does provide the passes to make it more convenient, this location is not great.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view - higher floor

Nice clean comfortable hotel. Staff are very friendly. Only thing I missed was the coffee/tea makings in the room. Free buses into the shopping precinct, which ran every half hour. ATM in hotel reception area is a bonus, although the money seems large amounts constantly as dealing in thousands of kronurs

We stayed at the beginning and then again at the end of our trip to Iceland. Loved it both times! The rooms are on the small side but adequate and spotlessly clean. I did use clothespins in one of the rooms I was in to keep the curtains closed - that was also needed in other hotels we stayed in.

The breakfast buffet is huge and delicious. The Vox restaurant for dinner was also a wonderful experience.
Half price drinks at happy hour in the bar were another plus.

The hotel is a bit of a distance from downtown - walkable but maybe 20 minutes or half an hour? The desk does give out free passes for the local bus which picks up right nearby so that made getting in and out of downtown a snap.

The one flaw for me was probably only an issue for someone who is a super light sleeper like I am. On the third floor on the front side of the hotel the rooms are looking out onto a roof with several generator units of some kind on it. I could hear the hum of them and it was not steady enough to be white noise, they sort of murmured and "spoke" to me all night. Again, maybe not a problem to anyone but the lightest sleepers.

Room Tip: In my experience the third floor front side rooms might have a noise problem.

Dear, traveler

Thank you for your recent review of our hotel, Hilton Reykjavik Nordica.
I am very pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica. I can agree with you on the breakfast buffet, it is quite huge and very delicious. I am also glad that you were able to use our free bus pass service. Actually we have never had anyone complaining about the generator units but I am very sorry to hear that it kept you awake. I will definitely send your complaint to our general manager and we will see if he can do anything about it.

Overall I hope that you will return to us someday and if you do, we will definitely be able to give you a room further from the generators.

Warm regards,
Trausti Karlsson

My husband and I stayed here for our first night in Iceland. It was very nice. We had a wonderful dinner in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was great; more than just standard continental breakfast. The location is not too convenient to downtown.

Dear, traveler

Thank you for your recent review of our hotel, Hilton Reykjavik Nordica.
I am glad that you and your husband had a nice stay. Regarding the location it is about 20 minute walk to the downtown area but on the way you will see a lot of shops, restaurants and other interesting places. You can also ask for a free bus pass in the lobby and there is a bus stop right outside the hotel so it should only take about 5-10 minutes to get downtown by taking the bus. I would also like to recommend some nearby attractions to you, for example the Laugardalur outdoor activity park, boasting one of Reykjavik's best outdoor swimming pools, sprawling botanical gardens, amusement park and animal zoo, as well as Iceland's main sport Centre. The biggest shopping mall in Iceland is also nearby, about 15 minutes walk.
Hopefully my recommendations will come in handy if you decide to stay with us again.

The Hilton Reykjavik Nordica exemplifies Iceland in summer, clean, clear, sustainable, fresh and comfortable. The rooms are minimalist but with the view of the sun setting (? more like bumping into the horizon and popping back up since we were there for the Summer Solstice) all you needed is there.

The restaurant downstairs has a wonderful and complete breakfast buffet in the morning and then is transformed into the restaurant VOX in the evening. The best 5 star dining expereince I have had in my life. The menu is fresh, fresh, fresh and the wines, excellent. Start with a glass of the VOX House Champagne! ENJOY!!

Room Tip: There are a few new boutique hotels in Reykjavik you should check out as well. Our room faced the se...

This hotel was recommended by friends and turned out to be just what they said. It was modern, quiet, clean with good service. Internets free only in the lobby was not a big deal. The restaurant was very good with a somewhat limited menu. It was about a 20 minute walk downtown, but the hotel provided a free bus pass which made it easy to go anywhere in Reykjavik. We spent 3 nights and were quite pleased.

Room Tip: Ask to be on the side facing the harbour. The higher floors have better views.
