“The Icelandic Phallological Museum is the nearest attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2013

From some of the reviews, you would think that this hotel is miles distant from the centre of Reykjavik. But actually it's a brisk 10 minute walk to the Phallological Museum, which is the metaphorical line (or perhaps todger) in the sand, marking the official start of the city centre (when walking from the direction of the Hilton).

So it's not that far. And if you can't bother to walk, a free bus pass is available from reception - they seem to depart from the stop outside every ten minutes or so.

So don't fret about the distance. And in fact - it's an advantage. Read reviews for most city centre hotels and they mention the noise; the thing is, revellers stay up late in the midnight sun - night doesn't exist for them but you, the visitor, still need to get to sleep. And the Hilton is away from all that.

It's a great hotel. Just read the general tone of the other reviews. My one tip would be to shop around for the best price - Expedia was far cheaper than the Hilton site and booking.com; for 3 nights we paid £306 in total for 2 people including breakfast, which is a bargain!

One other thing about the Phallological Museum - unlike the Hilton's Executive lounge, you don't have to be a Member to get in.

We were on an Icelandair package and had booked the Leif Errikson Hotel, but were transferred to the Nordica. It is a little out of town, but the free bus pass was great as the bus stop was across the road outside the hotel, and several buses passed on their way into town. We got off at the local bus station Hlemmur and walked into town from there.

The breakfast was wonderful with a great mix of hot and cold food, fresh fruit and cold meats including salmon. The Custard Danish were brilliant. Staff were very nice.

The room has tea and coffee making facilities, spoiled slightly by only having paper cups! There is a small fridge in your room and a great ice machine on each floor, great for having some duty free drinks.

The hotel also had a half price happy hour from 5 to 7 pm every night. Two Gins & Tonic and two pints of Gull was 2,650 Isks which is about £15 during Happy Hour. We ate out twice at a restaurant in town called 73. It had a great selection of really big burgers and Icelandic beer and nice deserts.

The Golden Circle trip was great, but quite a long day. We also did the Whale Boat trip and didn't see any whales. The trip to the Blue Lagoon takes 90 minutes from the Hotel as you always get taken to the Bus Station first and then transfer to the excursion bus which takes some time. The Lagoon is wonderful but quite expensive, check the bus leaving times, there and back, carefully as we ended up not having enough time at the lagoon.

We went at the end of May and wore woolly socks, walking boots, thermal jumpers, fleeces, scarfs, hats and gloves and were rarely too warm. The city is right on the sea and there is always a cold wind. Loved Reykjavic and what we saw of Iceland, prices steep but not as bad as we feared. Gifts in tourist shops expensive but nicely made. Would recommend Icelandair package and Hilton.

Room Tip: We were in room 645 at the very end of the building which was quiet, view at that side was over the...

The overall experience is good, but it is a slightly overpriced 4 star experience. Staffs of all levels are just wonderful. Internet service in rooms is overpriced, charge by day and not included in the room rate. Use the free lobby internet service. If you cannot be the one of the first people to get there, just forget about going to the Executive Lounge, there is not enough space. For breakfast, use the restaurant downstairs. If you don’t mind standing, you can get a couple of drinks for free in the evening, the view is beautiful.

Very fast and friendly check with full information about hotel facilities and other points of interest. The free bus pass made getting around quick and seamless.
Our room was as expected, modern, clean, with all amenities. Dinners were of a medium to high leveland the service was more than adequate to allow us to enjoy a relaxing dinner. Breakfast buffet was extensive and would satisfy any taste. did not have lunch. Lots of atmosphere in the Vox Bar and a good selection of quality drinks. (great martinis).

Room Tip: ask for a room facing the water

Me and my wife went to this hotel for a weekend getaway. The hotel is amazing. Has a nice spa. Really good rooms and if you purchase their VIP package, as we did, you have an access to the Spa and the VIP lounce which has amazing views over part of Reykjavik and offers upp some small dishes, vine and beer free of charge.

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side have better views.

Good first impressions, staff very welcoming. Hotel in good location. City centre easily accessible by bus, which the hotel gives you a free bus pass. For those with the energy you could walk it in 20 mins I reckon. Rooms were a bit on the smaller side compared to other hiltons I've stayed in, and I found it strange that they fixed the tv facing away from the bed so you couldn't watch tv in bed. No mini as well which was strange for a Hilton. Agree with previous comments about black out curtains, the sun may have risen at 5am but I certainly didn't want to wake up then! Didn't use spa/ fitness facilities but this was included for all rooms at this Hilton not just suites which is a bonus. Free Internet in the lobby, but again at these prices you should have it in your room. There was a good tourist information shop where you could book tours to come pick you up or book transport to the airport. Great little bar, took full advantage of their happy hour and tried some new cocktails. Ate in the restaurant twice, both times food was superb and service good. My only comment here was there was little choice for vegetarians but what they did have was good. Breakfast was also very good. I fell in love with Iceland and will be looking to return to Reykjavik, I will shop around but I think I will most likely stay here again.

The rooms are clean, fresh, bright and comfortable however if your sleep is affected by light the curtains are not lined and do not offer blackout.
Breakfast is served in "Vox" the main restaurant and is very pleasant with a generous selection. Ensure that your breakfast is pre booked as this will give you a saving of Kr 500 per person per day.
The hotel is situated out of the main centre but the hotel offers complimentary public transport (bus tickets) for the duration of your stay. This works well apart from Sunday morning when the busses do not run until 12 noon. If you have tours booked this may not matter as the tours pick up directly from the hotel. For a fun Icelandic experience try the nearby outdoor geothermal pool which is a 10mins walk away.

Room Tip: rooms facing the mountains on a high floor
