“Fantastic hotel in Reykjavik”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

When I came to Nordica, it was as part of an Icelandair package, and we stayed for several nights. From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, we were both just 'wow' at every moment - without doubt the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Nothing seemed too much for the staff, the hotel itself (and adjoining VOX restaurant) are of fantastic quality and the rooms are really comfortable. We liked being slightly out of town, as we appreciated the 10-20 minute walk in the bracing winds to blow off the cobwebs, however with Reykjavik's rapidly changing weather, it can be a little bit challenging when it suddenly turns half way!!

Room Tip: If you can get a room looking out over the coast and mountain, then the view is amazing!

Now, I didn't expect too much of this hotel anyway but there was few very disappointing and annoying details. First, the staff. My wife and I booked this hotel via Icelandair as part of the package. The staff that knew we were there via Icelandair, did show, almost deliberately, that we were second rate guests. Other staff that didn't know how did we book the hotel were professional as they would be with other guests. Staff at the bar was really nice. Room was OK, nothing special. Got used to a bit better at Novotel chain, for less money... maybe it was the ''Hilton" name that brings out the "wow" factor. However, this hotel clearly makes a difference between guests and "guests". Maybe the biggest disappointment was the spa in the hotel. It does not belong to the hotel at all, it is separate company that runs it, it is pricey, especially when you compare it to Novotel where you get all this included in price of every room. And worst of all, it closes at 8 P.M. and that kills all the joy of relaxation after strolling the city or coming back from some guided tour in Iceland. So, you are left with your bathtub in the room.
All in all the biggest disappointment was the hotel staff. The personnel at tourist info point inside hotel next to reception, was so much more informative, helpful, pleasant, nice, talkative I have to say, they made my day every time I needed help. The staff at the reception would first look at me with expression on their face like : " I am not here to service you or answer any of your questions.." and only when I started to be strict and demanded some service, almost in the rude manner, they would do it. Do not expect any information from them...
Also, this was supposed to be the best hotel in whole Iceland... sofas are worn out, there are stains on the furniture, juice during breakfast runs out and doesn't get replenished... so many details that cannot be ignored in 4 star hotel...
I will visit Iceland again surely, but almost definitely not in this hotel...
Good sides of stay were the very nice, tasty and with local flair and hotel location is at walking distance to Laugardalslaug city pools that were wonderful and reason we will come back to Iceland...
I am more sorry than disappointed that it turned to be so...

Room Tip: Go to another hotel... if you decide to go to this one, do not EVER ask nicely, it doesn't work...

Lovely accommodations. As Diamond Hilton members we were automatically upgraded. Free wifi and executive lounge. (Vala was incredible!!) We were grounded by Sandy in the US. After checking out, they checked us right back in to our old rooms with amenities no questions asked. Tour office assisted us with some issues even though we had booked the tour ourselves. Could not have asked for anything more!

I booked that hotel for an 8 day stay in Reykjavik. I was travelling with my teenage son and my main reason for choosing the Hilton was that there was no charge for under 18s.

The room was nice, clean and comfortable. There was a good selection at breakfast, although the hot food was never hot! We ate at Vox on a couple of occasions. Food was good but focused on fine dining style - we would have preferred a more relaxed option. The bar had half price drinks between 5 & 7 which was great. If ordering hot drinks though, they only serve small sizes which wasn't adequate.

The out of town location was inconvenient, particularly if you wanted to have dinner in town and get back to hotel for a northern lights tour. More frequent shuttle buses would have been welcome - like another reviewer I missed one at first as it looked like a coach for day trips!

The front rooms of the hotel overlook the harbor, the volcanic mountains and a view of a glacier. 5 minute cab ride to downtown, a few minute walk from a few resturants, a bank, a mall..
FANTASTIC buffet breakfast at the hotel(which came free as part of our package). The people at the concierge desk could not have been more helpful with info and with making all the arrangements for side trips. The bus for trips picked us up right at the hotel as well as the rental car agency. The front desk staff was great also. Very clean hotel with very good food as well. There is also a spa area with 3 hot tubs, each with different temperature levels and massages are available. Overall a real nice hotel which made for a very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a front room a t least 3 floors up(there is like 7 or 8 floors to this hotel)

The hotel is in the business sector and although it is not located in the heart of Reykjavik it is great to use as a base. There is a free bus to take you into the city centre but do be careful as they aren't as frequent as you would think.

The rooms are typical of a Hilton Hotel, basic and clean. The breakfasts live up to their usual high standard. Service is excellent and all staff that we dealt with were professional. The hotal also has it's own tourist travel shop and the lady there was very helpful in contacting our tour compoany for us, even though we hadn't booked the tours through them.

Room Tip: We didn't have a view as our room overlooked the carpark, which was noisy as we always sleep wit...

We stayed in the Hilton in late October 2012. We had two rooms (1x double, 1 x twin) and were were happy with our experience. The rooms were medium sized, bathrooms small but beds very comfortable and pillows huge. The buffet breakfast every morning was enormous, so much food you didn't need lunch most days. The hotel staff + tour operator were very helpful and extremely polite. Easy walk into town 10-20 mins. I would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: There is a chemist/pharmacy just around the corner (behind the hotel) if you need anything.
