“Fantastsic Seafood buffet but more expensive than I feel it deserves”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

The restaurant is based not far from the old harbour and from the centre hotel. It offers a seafood buffet for 6450kr and you can have starters, mains and dessert for this price. You can have the starters or mains or desserts only for a smaller price (can’t remember the price sadly) and also a la carte should you wish. They have reasonably priced drinks and free Wi-Fi. The starters was a selection of cold starters such as salmon, herrings, a quiche style mix of fish and shrimp, breads, soup, and cured or smoked whale. I couldn’t really detect the flavour of whale if I’m honest. The mains had salt baked cod, pasta, cous cous, salad, freshly cooked meal, blackened salmon and another main course.

The desserts were a mousse style dessert, cheesecakes and fruit. Coffee was also included.

The staff were very friendly but I do feel that unless you try to eat sufficient amount to cover your cost then you’ll feel hard done by. I had the buffet and two beers for a total of 8250kr (£45) but then being from Yorkshire I would feel hard done by, just kidding.

Arrived late and hungry. Immaculate dining area & great service. Disappointed with my choice of dish - very bland almost tasteless. Should have gone with the buffe

“Ideal for exploring Icelandic food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014

You can’t really miss this restaurant if you’re walking around the area. It’s big, bold and quite appealing…. Just like the food. Finding somewhere good to eat without talking out a mortgage to pay for it is a bit of challenge in Reykjavik at the best of times so this place has its uses. If you go for the buffet you’ll be met with a wide range of very well prepared foods at a reasonable price. The staff are friendly and more than happy to explain the dishes for you. Don’t hold back – just go for it and you’ll get the best experience (and value) in town.

“A must while in Reykjavik”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2014

Everything is very expensive in Iceland, so you might as well have great food. We chose Restaurant Reykjavik because it offered a buffet that had a wide variety of Icelandic foods to choose from. The seafood on the buffet was very fresh and worth the $60 per person charge.
