“Pre-everything nostalgia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

Jomfrúin restaurant is the perfect nostalgia eatery in Iceland, serving pre-war and pre-everything Danish lunch courses. Remember those small basement lunch-only eateries in Copenhagen, this is a diner-type replica.
Forget fashion and nouvelle, plunge into pork rib roast, fishballs, brisket, warm liver paté, cold plaice. I prefer the shrimp pyramide, the shrimp are really fresh and sparkling.
You either choose from the blackboard or from the menu of Danish open sandviches. You can in most cases choose between whole and half portions. Half of shrimp and half of raw beef tartar is a good combination.
Service is brisk and prices are comfortable, popular with local retired couples and female government officials. This is a no-nonsense joint, closed for dinner.
The name Jomfrúin translates into The Virgin.

“Food and Jazz”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 27, 2014

In summer months on Saturday afternoons between three and five the restaurant offers very good light meals in the backyard where jazz bands come and play for free! Great time in Reykjavik!

“More than just a sandwich”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

This is restaurant with a long history. They serve sandwiches, but not as you know them. I had a slice of dark bread with a sumptuous filling of fresh fish. The taste was amazing. Even though the seats in front of the restaurant are near a 'busy' street, it was still an extremely relaxed and enjoyable experience.

I would not go to Iceland to have their sandwiches, but there is no doubt that whenever I go to Iceland, I will be having their sandwiches. This place is very easy to recommend.
