Jomfrúin restaurant is the perfect nostalgia eatery in Iceland, serving pre-war and pre-everything Danish lunch courses. Remember those small basement lunch-only eateries in Copenhagen, this is a diner-type replica.
Forget fashion and nouvelle, plunge into pork rib roast, fishballs, brisket, warm liver paté, cold plaice. I prefer the shrimp pyramide, the shrimp are really fresh and sparkling.
You either choose from the blackboard or from the menu of Danish open sandviches. You can in most cases choose between whole and half portions. Half of shrimp and half of raw beef tartar is a good combination.
Service is brisk and prices are comfortable, popular with local retired couples and female government officials. This is a no-nonsense joint, closed for dinner.
The name Jomfrúin translates into The Virgin.
