We have rarely been let down by TripAdvisor reviews but Argentina Steakhouse just didn't live up to its reputation.
We were there on a Friday evening and the restaurant was only one third to a half full yet we were taken to a table in a dark corner next to the kitchen door. We asked for a better table and had to wait 10 minutes for a table that was almost certainly already set: we saw no diners leave while we were waiting.
When we placed our order I asked if the 'standard' baked potato could be replaced by fries. I was told that it could be but the fries would be charged for as they were an 'extra'. A disappointing attitude that wasn't replicated on the next two evenings at Caruso.
The time from placing our order to having it delivered was long and, when the steaks arrived, the evening continued its downward spiral. Having asked for the steaks to be 'medium' they were both delivered raw (as opposed to rare) in the central two thirds. Not only undercooked, they were tough. After waiting a long time to catch a waiter's eye, one was grilled further but came back just as tough and unpalatable. Having eaten steak in Buenos Aires, Argentina on more than a few occasions, the Icelandic version left a lot to be desired.
To make amends, the restaurant offered complimentary deserts and coffee but it really was a gesture too late. A restaurant advertising itself as a steakhouse, and using 'Argentina' in its name, really should be able to produce a decent steak, especially at the prices they charge.
