“bad start but good finish”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2014

We booked a budget apartment through booking.com on basis of the photographs we saw and the mention that every room just had been renovated. However when we saw our budget room, this was definitely not what we had seen on the photo's. We could have lived with the smaller/ not renovated room if it wasn't for the mold everywhere in the bathroom.

We spoke to the manager (Joost) the next morning and helped us immediately. He upgraded us to a deluxe apartment, which was in tip top shape. He was very helpful and friendly which makes a world of difference. Our new apartment was really good and we have had a great time here.

Apartment K (main location) lies in the center of Reykjavik, with many restaurants and shops nearby. It's a great central location.

The location is perfect and very central. On arrival it took a while before anyone answer the door but got checked in. It was nice of the receptionist to show me the flat and it is a free upgrade from studio, and very spacious. However, the photos they took may have been a bit deceiving as what they show in the photos reflects a high quality service apartment style. However the reality is stucco walls, very exposed painted floors and the most eerie and uncomfortable ceiling - made of cut pieces of tree trunk that instantly gives you eerie-ness and shivers. Who wants to wake up and look at such ceiling? I am sure if the other rooms are white it is okay. Also they do not service the room so for the price I find it a bit poor. The people living above are also very noisy.

Room Tip: If you really want to stay make sure you ask them to give you a room with WHITE ceiling and no funky...

Very central location. Great first impression of apartment. Clean, lots of facilities - stayed in delux apartment for 2. Free upgrade from studio! Very ikea inspired interior. Stylish/functional. Well equipped kitchen area including coffee maker, dishwasher, every utensil you could need. Washing up liquid dishwasher tablets etc. towels etc. we asked for quiet apartment - it was quiet apart from occasional noise fri/sat night. The other end of the Main Street was very noisy so we were pleased to be at the top end. The staff at main reception apartment were friendly helpful. There was a slight delay - only about 20 minutes on arrival while we waited in the main building as the reception guy was taking another couple to their apartment and then returned to take us to ours.
I would definAtely stay here again...so central/handy especially compared to those hotels on edge of Reykjavik as it's quite a spread out city. Well done apartment k team.

My mom and I stayed here for a week in the Thingholdstraat location, and I enjoyed it. I am a heavy sleeper, but my mom was awoken by noise above us a few nights unfortunately. I think the walls are quite thin. The decor was definitely quirky, but I knew that when booking it. The receptionist were helpful in assisting with bookings and restaurant recommendations.

Room Tip: Maybe request the top floor so you don't hear people moving around above you all night.

Where do I start?
I'll tell you the positives ... really nice guy who greeted us. Big tv with English tv channels. Fantastic central location. Comfortable bed. Big apartment. Nice and warm.
Now for the negatives ... there is no "reception" - just a locked front door ... we could only get in when an existing guest came in. We booked a deluxe room - but the only deluxe thing was the size. The apartment was not in the main block, but was a 5 minute walk away - a bit disconcerting when you have just arrived in a strange city - and extremely confusing/inconvenient when you have arranged to be picked up for tours. We found ourselves in a house converted into flats - perhaps originally it was an appealing flat but now it's old and worn out. The fixtures and fittings were certainly anything but deluxe ... the kitchen units were old and grubby and there was no dishwasher ... and the sponge scourers provided for washing dishes were old & smelly - quite simply vile. The shower cubicle was ancient and tatty and the shower head should have been replaced years ago. The wardrobes are by the front door, not in the bedroom. The bed is wedged up against the wall - so to go to the loo in the night I had to literally climb over my husband! There was just one sofa - which was worn out, threadbare and very uncomfortable. Pretty much all of the furniture is from Ikea - I have no problem with Ikea - but I would recommend the owners take a trip back there and buy some new furniture/kitchen units. I'm sure from the reviews that some Apartment K accommodation is perfectly pleasant - but ours wasn't one of them. I wouldn't come back if you paid me.

Apartment K flats very nice, ideally situated in Central Reykjavik. Central offices for several apartments. The first apartment we stayed in was over a very noisy bar, which had very loud music and party till 6am!! But staff at Apartment K transferred us quickly to alternative apartment.
Both apartments were lovely, great decor with quirky features.
Would recommend.

Room Tip: Don't get the apartment over the bar. This flat also has glass door on bathroom, not ideal for e...

We would recommend staying in Apartment K. It is located right in the centre but without all the noise, with a supermarket in the next street.

Our room (studio) was well equipped and always warm. It's fantastic for the price and with the kitchen area, you can cook in the evenings after a day seeing the sights of Iceland.
