“Great location,friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

We were due to stay at Centerhotel Thingholt but a few days before we left were told we had been moved to this hotel, and I can say we were not disappointed.
The hotel is in a great location, just along from the harbour and across the road from the Harpa concert hall. Approx 5 minute walk to the main street where the shops and restaurants are.
We were given a deluxe room, nice big double bed with comfy pillows and snug duvets. The room was minimalistic but that was good meant we had to keep it tidy!
Tea/coffee making facilities in the room and a very big TV which had many english channels.
I agree the shower set up is different! But by having the moving door like this it gave more room in the bathroom. The shower was hot you just need to know that there is a button on the temperature side that if you press and turn the control the water gets very hot.
The rooms were cleaned each day and we could ask for extra tea and coffee sachets.
Breakfast was on floor 8, Sky bar, which has stunning views across the water. There was plenty to choose from and was always being refilled.
This was also the only place to get food in the hotel so was limited to light snacks the rest of the time, but we chose to eat out at the many restaurants locally.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving lots of advice as to good restaurants, how the weather was going to be that day and booking excursions for us.
We had use of the spa, free robes and slippers, this was lovely at the end of each busy day.
We didn't get to see the Northern Lights as it was too cloudy, but that is a perfect reason to come back, which we are already planning and will be staying at this hotel again.

Room Tip: I would ask for a sea view room if you can.

Excellent location by the waterfront, quick walk into city. Received a very poor service. Had paid extra for a superior room, had emailed twice prior to arrival to confirm this, however on arrival was placed in a standard room that was very shabby. On highlighting this to staff we were eventually moved to a different room - still only a standard room and having booked a double bed received a twin bed room. No apologies from staff, made to feel more like an inconvenience. We had a sea view which was excellent, although rooms very basic, no wardrobe, no drawers - very cramped. TV did not work properly with a buzzing noise all night. Showers took a lot of getting used to and the bathrooms ended up completely soaked. Cleaning staff and staff in the breakfast room very friendly. Not impressed for the price and would not pay for a superior room again.

First time in Iceland. Hotel very comfortable. Rooms very minimalist warm and clean. Bit of an odd set up with shower. Wet room really but take care if shower head not angled correctly everything gets wet.

Sky roof top bar nice for snacks and a drink. Good views. Breakfast also in this bar. Breakfast very good plenty to choose from.

Would return to this centrally located hotel

This hotel is right on the harbour front and central to all of Reykjavik's sights. We couldn't have chosen better. We had a standard room which was very minimalist (not a lot of space to put your clothes) and quite small but very comfortable - perfect for us for 5 nights. We loved the large cosy bed with lovely quilts and pillows, and slept perfectly every night. There was underfloor heating so the room was a pleasure to come back to after a cold November day of sight-seeing. Breakfast was included in the price and there was a selection of juices/coffee/tea, bread/cereal/fruit/eggs/bacon/porridge served on the 8th floor Sky bar, with a wonderful view of the city. The receptionists were amazing - they couldn't do enough to help you. There's a free safe in the room (perfect for passports/travel documents) wi-fi, and a steam room, sauna, and thermal bath on the ground floor. I'd definitely go back there again.

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking the harbour, the views are spectacular.

Great location, nice clean hotel. Large double bed, with warm soft quilts and pillows, really comfy!! Wonderful view from the top floor breakfast room/bar. The northern lights were visible from this breakfast room/bar, over the harbour. Rooms very minimalist, no wardrobe or drawers, but this did have the benefit of making sure you left nothing behind on leaving! Breakfast good, wide choice and hot! A safe in the room, at no extra cost, and a fully stocked mini bar. Ample towels, and the room was visited daily by hotel cleaning staff, with consumed items replenished and beds made. I would definitely stay at this location again.

Just returned from 5 night trip staying at this hotel which we couldn't fault. We only booked a standard room (deluxe were available at extra cost) and were delighted to be given a room with a wonderful view of the sea, harbour entrance and snow topped mountains. The Sky restaurant where an excellent breakfast is served, has fantastic views of the harbour, mountains and surrounding area - there is an outside terrace perfect for taking great pics but a bit cold in Nov for alas fresco dining.

The room was very comfy with all our needs catered for - tea/coffee making, mini bar, hair dryer, toiletries, shower caps, flannels and of course plenty of towels with a large wet room type bathroom (no bath). The large bed (2 singles pushed together) was so comfy with soft pillows & duvet - best I've experienced in a hotel.

Receptionists were very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and they helped us with hire car booking, printing off details of places to visit by 4x4 and phoning Iceland Excursions (Grayline) regularly for us to check if Northern Lights trips were going ahead and to book our airport transfer bus.

We also found Iceland Excursions to be first rate- having read a few reviews about excursions I was expecting coach trips to be a bit chaotic but this was not the case with Iceland Excursions, everything went really well and the Guides were very good.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 610 - a standard room but quiet and comfy with great views. Lifts are reliable.
