“Pretty good!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2011

right next to shops and everything you Want to get to. Design is very snazzy, rooms differ quite a bit,so be careful, had a few issues on first night changing rooms twice, from 2 different twin rooms to a suitable double.but after that was good.
The staff were friendly, breakfast is good.noise on weekends in some rooms can be too much for some but was okay for us.
Would go back again!

Stayed here for 5 days with my boyfriend - perfect central location just off the main shopping street. Cosy room with a massive bath tub! Staff were very helpful, especially mark who helped with reservations & recommendations around the town.

Loved it!

it was just few steps away from the large shopping street and from outside nealy unvisible.
inside it was a great impression about the nice interiour of ts lobby.
our room was little bit small, but wit a fashionable outfitting and also a modern bathroom with nice soap and shampoo things.
breakfst in Morning was great and had little icelandic influence.
in due of its good location, there are a lot of restaurants and bars just beside!

Spent 5 days at CenterHotel Thingholt, could not ask for more. The rooms were great, brilliant cebtral location, but most of all the staff were excellent. They went out of their way to help us as this was our first tirp to Iceland, could not have asked for more. We will be going back to this hotel.

The hotel looks good when you enter, we stayed in a design room which was a good size.
The bathroom was not massive but had a very powerful shower, almost too powerful as the water went everywhere, and a good sized bath.
The staff are helpful but don't expect them to come across as happy smiley people. This is true of most Icelanders as they are quite reserved almost cold however once past this they were always helpful.
The hotel really did not have an atmosphere as the bar was always quiet. This is just as well as there was only one member of staff working in the evening.
Breakfast was adequate but nothing to write home about.
All in all a pleasant stay nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about.

We booked a weekend break on Expedia and didn't really look into the hotel choice much, but booked on class and price. Thingholt is right in the centre of town, which makes it great for shopping but not so great for sleeping on weekends. It's on a side street but the clubs here go on til the morning. That said it wasn't too bothersome and nothing compared to the fire alarm that went off the next night. The cardinal sin in my view of this place was the lack of a double bed when that is what they advertise. We got two singles pushed together. In this class of hotel that's poor. The room was quite nice, we opted for a larger than standard double and got a leather sofa, nice bathroom but the styling ... Well its very 90s. Black, White, lots of leather - it's on the tables, the chairs, the floor, the cushions. It's quite funny and in some ways almost charming but odd nonetheless. The staff were polite if not particularly friendly. The other slight annoyance was the lack of a working fridge. I mentioned this to front desk who took a mild interest and then did precisely nothing. Not a biggie but we d bought some alcohol on the flight over and had no way of chilling it. Repeated mentions of the situation resulted in some shrugging. They provided ice happily enough but its not quite the same. Breakfasts are nice. A buffet. Included for us and with decent if uninspiring options. The coffee is flask-operated but reasonably fresh. Overall not somewhere I would come back too but I know you could do worse. We went to Domo, the hotel restaurant next door that was highly recommended by a friend. I guess we were unlucky as it was a poor experience and we sent something back - which I've rarely done ever. The best thing about this place is the location. The worst the single bed scenario and the loud heating. The false fire alarm didn't help. hardly their fault - hey at least the equipement works! Wifi is free and works well by the way. There are some positives but not enough to bring me back. Oh and smiling is not the Icelandic way. If you come here get used to that. With four hours of daylight a day in winter I don't blame them.

My new wife and I were on honeymoon at the hotel over New Year 2010. I had read reviews of the hotel and had asked in April when I booked the honey moon for a room towards the rear of the hotel as the noise from the street is a problem - the noise from Bar6 at the end of the street goes on to 6am some mornings.

We were promised the room on e-mail, which I double-confirmed again on 18th December to make sure. Again this was confirmed.

On arrival we were put into room 314 - facing the front of the hotel. I explained to the guy behind the desk that we were promised a room at the rear - however he explained that the hotel was fully booked and that we'd have to wait for the morning to speak to the allocation manager to see what could be done.

Disappointed we went to bed, however could not sleep due to what can only be described as a crashing noise (imagine pulling a heavy iron grate down a cobbled street) every time the room upstairs flushed the toilet - it seems that we were near the waste pipes at that end of the hotel.

We simply couldn't put up with the room, and at midnight were moved to a quieter room after much negotiation with the night staff.

All in all far from the ideal start to our honeymoon we had hoped.

The next day we were given the choice to stay in that room (at the rear of the hotel), or be upgraded (at a 20% discount that I bargained to get) to a larger suite - however still at the front, noisy street. The room we were in was really small (Junior Suite) and not large enough for a multi-day stay (would be OK for a night or 2) - so we felt that we had little choice but to move to the upgrade and suffer the noise.

We were promised that all our baggage would be moved into the new room from 314 when we returned from a long day trip the next day. On arrival no-one knew whether we had been moved or not - I was given keys to room 314 and invited to check. The room was untouched - it still had our dirty plates in there from the night before - so I moved my things myself.

We heard many other couples complaining about room availability, and how a double bed actually meant 2 single beds pushed together (this is what we observed too). Their remedy to this problem was to place a topper mattress across the whole bed to make it into a double - however this turned out to be just a double bed sheet which clearly offers no support and is not the right solution and not what they had promised.

We felt as if the staff - although pleasant - were far from exceptional and did nothing to make our stay any more pleasant than absolutely necessary.

On check out I was delighted to learn that the upgrade fee had been waived as a token of good will. This indeed was good to hear - only to check my bank balance a few days later to find that the hotel had taken my money anyway. I have exchanged 2 e-mails with the desk staff - they have no intention of reimbursing me which is nothing short of adding insult to injury.

All in all this trip was a disappointment. If you want somewhere to stay that is a place to put your stuff whilst you enjoy the nightlife then this is the one.

If you want to spend quality time and be assured of a quality service at every turn - don't go here. For us it was a mistake.
