“Amazing hotel, great location. Would certainly return!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

What an amazing hotel booked through lowcostholidays. We travelled in February 2014 for 4 nights.

The location is perfect, right in the centre of Reykjavik. The breakfast was amazing, especially the smoked salmon! Room was amazing. Really modern decor and really spacious. Free wifi was an added bonus.

We wouldn't hesitate to return to this hotel if we ever headed back to Reykjavik.

Room Tip: Our room looked out onto the road but was really quiet at night we found, unless we was just tired f...

This fairly modern hotel is very central and only a 15min walk from the convention centre. However it is around 45min from Keflavik airport and taxis are expensive, so it is advisable to book a shuttle bus beforehand, or at the airport. The hotel has a very interesting lobby, with large leather seats, a sunken area, a computer and books about Iceland. The staff were very helpful indeed. Light meals are available in the lobby but there is a bistro onsite which was very good. There are also many restaurants within a few minutes walk, including some excellent ones serving traditional Icelandic dishes, which are recommended.
My room was also modern in its furnishings although the desk was completely inadequately lit - the low wattage bulb in a sherical shell only pointed upwards, which cast at best a gloom over the desk itself. The bathroom had a clay floor with underfloor heating. The shower was separate from the bath and was open, wet room style. Alas, there was no air conditioning and although it was cool outside the heat from the bathroom made the bedroom hot. The only way to cool it was to leave the window open.
There were no facilities for smokers, who have to stand outside in the narrow street. However, there is a small open courtyard on the first floor where smoking is permitted, which is marginally better then the street.

We traveled about Iceland for hiking, with 3 stops in Reykjavik between drives, and stayed in 3 different hotels downtown. Thingholt was definitely the best value, the most fun place to stay, and (with the discount coupon from check-in) the restaurant was also a good value. Additionally, the food was excellent and creative; we were sad that there were so few patrons. Our room was small but stylish, and free Wi-Fi was a plus. Staff were very helpful. Just one weakness - the black everywhere was sometimes just a bit TOO dark. The corridors were especially cave-like. Overall, though, we really enjoyed this.

My wife and I stayed in the CenterHotel þhingholt for our our honeymoon and really enjoyed it. The location is fantastic -- both for restaurants and for transit. If taking any of the Iceland Excursions or Grey Line tours the loading area is just a few blocks away. The rooms are well kept and very clean both in maintenance and design. The spa area was not quite complete during our stay (no masseuse available) but the staff helped us to book a great spa package at another location. They also helped us to book car rentals and other excursions.

Exellent location. Rooms are not the biggest. Lots of concrete and furniture are dark, with a modern and industrial look. Very helpful staff. Good breakfast included in room price. If you prefer to sleep with your winow open you'll be kept awake by the noise from the streets. But no noise with window closed.

Great location, very modern, but dark and ungainly; in the foyer with another couple, I stepped back to make room...soaking my foot in a shallow moat! Our "deluxe" room was poorly laid out, small, with a bathtub on a bias making maneuvering two large suitcases difficult, and lighting so 1950's, with no light at all over the desk. Deskstaff was nice and friendly, breakfast was nicely done with good variety, in the middle of downtown but not noisy, best thing was being so close to Hamarhusid, Lobster House Restaurant!

Many things in Iceland are dark and or black. This otherwise very nice hotel is extremely dark. The staff was nice and the breakfast (not plentiful but) not bad at all. Rooms were very small and like the rest of the hotel dark. Location is just superb - right in the enter of town.

Room Tip: Larger rooms available for extra pay
