“Great, short stay...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

I took advantage of Icelandair's no cost layover days to go fishing and chose to stay at CenterHotel Thingholt due to its central location and 'hip and trendy' atmosphere. I found the room comfortable and modern (see photos), the staff helpful and fluent in English and the hotel very centrally located to Reykjavik's downtown activities and restaurants. The included breakfast was simple in range, but tasty and provided ample calories for two days of fishing in cold rain. Simply put, this is a good hotel for the money. You may be able to find cheaper, but why would you? The hotel has no pool and I did not try out the fitness center, nor remember if they have one...do some walks around the town instead!

A great hotel at a great price. The location is excellent, short walk from tourist information office and main street. The room was cleaned every day, and although rather small, had all you need for the amount of time you spent there. Friendly staff, nice plentiful breakfast, short stroll from the bank. No money change here which I did not realise, had to wait for the bank to open the next day.

This hotel has a very good location indeed as it is right in the city centre and is pretty well known. The rooms are very very compact though and barley enough space for 2 people and 2 suitcases! The hotel is pretty clean and the bed quite comfortable. The shower is fabulous- very powerful and spacious! Good English channels available to watch aswell. There is also a kettle in the room with large selection of coffee, tea and herbal tea. It does get very cold at night in the rooms though and there was no heating (at least none that we are aware of). There is a club right near the hotel so it does get very noisy on a Saturday night but if you close the window you can block it out (and im a really light sleeper).

Breakfast was included but was very basic. I wouldn't recommend paying extra for this if it is not included in your room rate.

The décor is lovely and has a very Icelandic feel. Wifi is free throughout the hotel which was very handy!

Reception staff very helpful in terms of booking excursions and stuff and just general info.

I recommend booking with Reykjavik Excursions- super organised, good value for money and good connections with this hotel. Booked all our excursions and airport transfer with them. It seems to be the main way for tourists to get around!

I would definatley stay in this hotel again.

it is a nice boutique hotel located in a very central location with lots of dining and shopping options. Staffs are friendly, great cozy lobby and free breakfast included is standard but adequate. The room can be rather dark for my liking (icelandic theme, so minimalistic, grey, cold), and the free wifi at hotel is rather unstable. However, there is many great cafes nearby the area and most of them offer free wifi so it's not a major issue during our stay.

We were very pleased by the nice room - not huge but it was clean, tidy and well-appointed. Other plusses include very friendly staff and good location. No hotel parking, but we found street parking nearby.
Couple of minor niggles: the small room safe was not bolted down (so could just be picked up and taken away even if locked); the room door closer was broken and had gouged a hole in the plaster, and when it got stuck in the hole you couldn't open the bathroom door properly!
Breakfast was adequate (Avoid the coffee.)
Overall I would recommend the hotel and would happily stay there again.

Great hotel and location. Great boutique design and very central - 2 minute walk to restaurants, shops, museums, the harbour and the tour office. Friendly and helpful staff, lovely breakfast every morning and a really enjoyable stay. Would go back without a doubt.

Room Tip: Worth upgrading to a deluxe room or better.

We stayed here for 4 nights. The location of the hotel is great, very central and can walk to most places. The hotel is VERY modern, which is great if you like that style. The breakfast buffet was average - nothing too special. Rooms were clean, but we had an issue with the water leaking out from the shower. Rooms were small though.

One warning, since the hotel is very central to the city, you can hear the music/loud noise from the bars across the street. One night the music didn't stop until 4AM. It was difficult falling asleep that night.
