“No place like Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2007

Located slap bang where you want to be in Reykjavik centre, arriving at Home is liking pulling up onto the driveway of a second home. Private parking right outside and a few short steps up to the door is what can only be termed as a home away from home.

Contemporary design throughout the studio coupled with all the things you need makes this a top notch pad from where you can base a visit to what I can only call a unique and fascinating country.

Agnar and Olafur where helpful from the moment we arrived. Key in hand, quick tour - flatscreen tv, bose system etc - and offer of 24 hour assistance plus free local phone calls we were away for our 3 night stay.

Location wise you are next door to tourist info, have two supermarkets close, great coffee shop round the corner and close to a mass of bars and restaurants.

Get yourself a car (as recommended by Agnar) and drive around the country itself. The roads are easy enough and sometimes you dont see another car for an age. The Geysir is a must and Snow mobiles are great fun, although not cheap, but then again in Iceland you get used to that.

In summary, absolute top accomodation, top hosts & top country.

PS. Tours are expensive - just as easy (and so much cheaper) to DIY with a car.

From the minute we arrived to the minute we left staying at Home was an awesome experience. Can't express enough just how great the little apartments that Agnur has are. Made this trip to Reykjavik all the more better! Will definately be coming back. Well done Agnur, we loved staying with you and will definately be telling anyone that will listen to us that this is the place to stay when visiting your awesome country!! :)

I went for a short weekend with my boyfriend, and we had a wonderfully romantic time. I must say this place was better than most hotels that I've stayed in. The apartment style really made you feel like you were visiting a friends home. The decor was beautiful and the hospitality was great. The furniture was fun and modern, and the kitchen had everything we needed to make a nice dinner. For the nights we didn't stay in, we were steps away from the main strip with all the restaurants, bars, shopping, and grocery stores. Perfect location, perfect place. We'll definitely go back!

We had a great time staying at this place. We booked for only a weekend in the off-season and the value for price was great. Not only is the apartment located 3 steps from the main shopping, dining and night life street, it also allows for an unique tourist experience in your own little apartment.
The apartment is very nicely decorated by the owner who is also an architect. The great advantage of having a kitchen is that you don't have to eat out every night which can easily save you $50 a meal. Finally the service outstanding with the staff assisting us with tour bookings.

We will definitely go back!

I run a tourist magazine in Reykjavik and review hotels all the time. Home stood out when I first saw it getting built-- it isn't tacky. Home is the only hotel I know of constructed of the traditional corrugated iron sheeting-- yes, that can be attractive.

Mainly, though, Home has legitimate style, and it actually serves the needs of someone visiting Reykjavik. It has a downtown location--most hotels in Reykjavik don't. It also has smart ammenities.

For me, this is the only hotel I would book in town-- otherwise I'd go with guest houses.

  • Liked — design and location
  • Disliked — expensive
  • Tips/Secrets — perfect for winter, when you have to be downtown

Home is a small property located right in the heart of Reykjavik (one small street behind the main shopping intersection). It is near everything and it has its own little parking area if you are renting a car. Agnar, the owner, is an architect who has fashioned studio apartments and a penthouse using cool materials, artwork by locals, cool lighting, etc. all to great effect. There are no hotel services but there are plenty of towels, and soaps supplied. Agnar is only a phone call away for tips on restaurants, sights and directions. He is enthusiatic about what he is doing and enjoys knowing that people are having fun. Each apartment has a kitchen with toaster, coffee pot, refrig, etc. so you can do some food and drinks. There are big comfortable couches. The apartments are cozy, snug, comfortable we were very relaxed.
