“A good hotel with excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

The hotel is fantastically situated and the staff are welcoming and friendly. Found the WI-FI to be a little patchy in our room on the 4th floor, but excellent everywhere else and free internet use in the lobby was a nice useful touch. The room (standard) was comfortable with a pleasant view over the square. The breakfast was ok. Found the breakfast room a little odd, seeming like a bit of an afterthought but the buffet was kept well stocked. A light breakfast was provided for our very early departure to the airport which was appreciated

Room Tip: Room 442 has patchy WI-FI access

After arriving on a 6am flight, we were told that our room wasn't ready. After waiting three hours I approached the desk again and was told it was ready. Word of advice make sure you keep asking, since no one is going to let you know when your room has been cleaned. Room was not up to American standards, nor resembled anything I've stayed in through out my travels to Europe. We did have a deluxe room, but was very out dated. Bathroom was tiny and my husband barely fit in the shower with the door closed. Breakfast had an array of items. Overall the location is very central and in walking distance to everything. The way we looked at the hotel situation was that we didn't spend more than a couple of hours each day sleeping and showering there. On our next trip, we will be staying somewhere else.

The location of the hotel is fantastic: on a quiet street just off the main shopping street and within minutes walk of many excellent restaurants, the harbour and its famous hot-dog stand, and really much of what you want to do in central Reykjavik. This is not to be sniffed at, especially when taxis are costly and walking any distance will chill you to the bone.

The rooms are on the small side, but pretty decently sized by central Reykjavik standards. That said, there is not really enough closet space if you are staying for a week with lots of bulky clothes. It is more suitable for a three night stay for a light traveller or someone on business.

The bathroom is also on the small side but well designed and perfectly functional. Both my room and bathroom were spotlessly clean!

This hotel provides a nice mix of location and value for money, and we would be happy to stay there on our next trip to Iceland.

Have just returned from our 5 night break. Hotel is perfect location, minutes from harbour, with restaurants, bars, shops on your door step and Tourist Information office right next door. We booked a superior room which I would recommend, We were allocated 502, fifth floor, great view, large, situated on a corner so double floor to ceiling windows, bathrobes, fridge, tea & coffee ( but no milk) English TV if required, clean and fresh. The only down side was the rather small shower cubicle and on a Saturday night was rather noisy from the street below until the early hours, but that was only one night , we slept very well the others.
Staff very friendly especially Kristinn and Ginesane ( sorry if spelt wrong). There is a computer in reception free for guests use. Nice bar area and the nightly Happy Hour 5pm-7pm is great with beer at just 500 IKR a pint.
Breakfast is hot and cold buffet style, plenty to choose from and always replenishing. The hotel is always busy so getting a table was sometimes difficult and most mornings ended in the overflow room which was ok but not many tables for 2 they are grouped in 6 and larger.
I would definitely stay at this hotel again as location is key for a city break and when weather can be so changeable you don't want to be walking far to eat or explore.

Room Tip: Go for a superior room, high floor. Varied reviews show position and outlook can vary.

Ideal location for exploring Reykjavik, the rooms are basic but clean and comfortable, happy hour 5-6, breakfast 7-10 good choice of food something for everyone. Next door is the tourist information office with very good staff.

Nice breakfast and prefect location. Very close to the harbor and Northern Lights Boat Tour. Room was average, we were on the second floor and had a view of 2 other buildings, so nothing too special. Front desk staff were pleasant and let us store our luggage since we arrived at 8 am and could not check in until 2pm.

We stayed at the Centerhotel Plaza for 4 nights from 5/3/14-8/3/14 on a short city break to Reykjavik in search of the Northern Lights.

The hotel is in a central location within short walking distance to the city centre, local bars, restaurants, shopping, the old harbour and the excursion sales office and pick up point. The location doesn't get much better and within a stones throw of the hotel are excellent restaurants not to be missed, such as the Restaurant Reykjavik with its world class fish buffet and Stofan Cafe which is a quaint little place serving great beer and coffee in what can only be described as a "cosy front room" style set up.

The hotel is comfortable and the staff and reception team welcoming and friendly. The reception area is warm and cosy and happy hour operates in the bar between 5-7pm, although seating is limited and it is a struggle to find somewhere to sit to take advantage of the happy hour prices!

The hotel rooms are comfortable and a decent size and the furnishings and fixtures of a decent quality. The heating is extremely effective and despite the comments in other reviews, it's was snowing heavily the whole time we were staying there and we were never cold once. In fact the heating was so effective we had to turn it down and open the window!!

Breakfast is excellent and plentiful and operates between 7-10 which suited us perfectly on both the days we were up early and out on excursions and on the days we had a lazy start. There is an abundance of hot and cold food including the usual coked breakfast items and also a delicious selection of more continental style food. There is a great selection of freshly baked breads and rolls and the home made cookies and flapjacks are delicious!

This hotel has everything and more that you need for a city break. We would not hesitate to return and next time will definitely stay longer. Thank you Centrehotel Plaza for an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Rooms to rear much quieter.
