“great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2013

We would definitely recommend the Plaza. We stayed 3 nights on a secret escapes package deal.
Our Superior room room was clean with a very comfy bed, and the bathroom had all modern fixtures with lots of hot water. A great shower!.Tea & coffee facilities which we never had time to use.
It was positioned at the back of the hotel and we overlooked out onto another building, but we just kept our curtains closed to avoid looking at the ugly wall.As we didn't spend any time in the room this was not a problem, also it was dark until 9am.

The breakfast buffet was very good with a large selection of items to choose from both hot and cold.
The morning we had to leave to go to the airport, it was prior to the buffet opening, so on request for an early breakfast, they had croissants and coffee in the reception for us.

The location of the hotel is great. It is very convenient to all of the shops, restaurants and the waterfront.Everything is within easy walking distance.

The bar was quite a small area, but had a lovely atmosphere with people coming & going. The only downside was the outside door automatically opening when anyone walked past. It blew freezing cold air through.
Helga in the bar was very sweet and friendly.Happy hour was 5-7 every day. Only beer on offer, but worth it to only have to pay for a pint £2.50

All the reception staff were extremely helpful, booking restaurants, and giving knowledgeable information.

Would return.

My wife and I stayed here on our 2nd trip to Iceland and I can honestly say it is a wonderful hotel , great staff who's knowledge and help with arranging anything is something that whilst they don't charge is priceless when in a different country, (Melissa was especially helpful in arranging some trips for us before we left the uk and I cannot thank her enough) the location is right in the centre with plenty of bars and various restaurants (Shalimar being a great indian just across the square) there are also some great burger pizza and fish places something for everyone including places with live bands and a 24hr mini supermarket within a 3 minute walk. All in all a great hotel which I would highly recommend

Room Tip: go for a suite, we was lucky enough to be given one,

This hotel is in a perfect location. It's near some of the best restaurants and within walking distance to Hallgrímskirkja church and shopping. The staff is outstanding. They go out of the way to make sure all the excursion connections are made. The breakfast which is included was excellant. I wouldn't hesitate staying there again.

This is a very nice mid priced hotel. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The hotel room area is a little dated but I don't think they see themselves as a 5 star hotel. My room was comfortable but a little small. The bathroom was very small. Location is excellent, very near all the attractions of downtown. My only suggestion when booking is to check other reviews of people who stayed here on a weekend and see if they complain about noise. Doesn't seem to be near enough the bar/nightclub area, but it is on a main plaza.

Great breakfast included with the stay. It is a buffet with fresh bread, fruit, granola, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit juices coffee and tea. If you eat a big breakfast you can save some money on lunch.

Would definitely stay here again

I would definitely recommend the CenterHotel Plaza. We stayed 3 nights on a stop-over on our way from the US to London. Our room was clean and the bathroom had all modern fixtures. Our room was towards the back of the hotel (what appeared to be an older section) and we looked out onto another building, but we just kept our curtains closed to avoid looking at the ugly wall. This was a "Standard room", so possibly an upgrade would put you in the newer section with a view.
The complementary breakfast buffet was very good with a large selection of items to choose from. The morning we had to leave to go to the airport, it was prior to the buffet opening, so they had croissants and coffee in the lobby for us. I thought that was a very nice touch.
The best part of the hotel is the location. It is very convenient to all of the shops, restaurants and the waterfront.

We spent two nights at the CenterHotel Plaza in September 2013 and enjoyed it very much. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was well-appointed and quite comfortable, and the location is very convenient. Additionally, the breakfast was quite nice and included some tasty Icelandic options that aren't commonly seen here in Canada, so we really appreciated that.

The only reason I'm taking off two stars is because the wing of the hotel where we stayed was in very bad shape. The room itself was fine, but the hallways looked like they had been vandalized and never repaired. To get to our room, we went past the fire alarm hanging off the wall, under the exposed wires hanging from the ceiling, past the random bag of garbage on the floor, and if we got to the mattresses leaning against the wall we'd gone too far. It was bizarre, especially since the reception area was quite modern and nicely decorated.

Other than the strange condition of the hallways, though, we had a great experience at this hotel and would stay there again.
