“A solid choice. Great breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

This is a very nice mid priced hotel. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The hotel room area is a little dated but I don't think they see themselves as a 5 star hotel. My room was comfortable but a little small. The bathroom was very small. Location is excellent, very near all the attractions of downtown. My only suggestion when booking is to check other reviews of people who stayed here on a weekend and see if they complain about noise. Doesn't seem to be near enough the bar/nightclub area, but it is on a main plaza.

Great breakfast included with the stay. It is a buffet with fresh bread, fruit, granola, eggs, bacon, sausage, fruit juices coffee and tea. If you eat a big breakfast you can save some money on lunch.

Would definitely stay here again

I would definitely recommend the CenterHotel Plaza. We stayed 3 nights on a stop-over on our way from the US to London. Our room was clean and the bathroom had all modern fixtures. Our room was towards the back of the hotel (what appeared to be an older section) and we looked out onto another building, but we just kept our curtains closed to avoid looking at the ugly wall. This was a "Standard room", so possibly an upgrade would put you in the newer section with a view.
The complementary breakfast buffet was very good with a large selection of items to choose from. The morning we had to leave to go to the airport, it was prior to the buffet opening, so they had croissants and coffee in the lobby for us. I thought that was a very nice touch.
The best part of the hotel is the location. It is very convenient to all of the shops, restaurants and the waterfront.

We spent two nights at the CenterHotel Plaza in September 2013 and enjoyed it very much. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was well-appointed and quite comfortable, and the location is very convenient. Additionally, the breakfast was quite nice and included some tasty Icelandic options that aren't commonly seen here in Canada, so we really appreciated that.

The only reason I'm taking off two stars is because the wing of the hotel where we stayed was in very bad shape. The room itself was fine, but the hallways looked like they had been vandalized and never repaired. To get to our room, we went past the fire alarm hanging off the wall, under the exposed wires hanging from the ceiling, past the random bag of garbage on the floor, and if we got to the mattresses leaning against the wall we'd gone too far. It was bizarre, especially since the reception area was quite modern and nicely decorated.

Other than the strange condition of the hallways, though, we had a great experience at this hotel and would stay there again.

Nice hotel in the city center. Cosy midlevel pricerange range. Have stayed the more than five times during business trips. Also suitable for tourist travel and families with kids. Ask for a room not to far from the reception. Typical Iceland standard breakfast. Absolutely ok. I will stay at this hotel at my next visit.

We recently enjoyed a three night stay at the CenterHotel Plaza. We arrived at the hotel at 9:00 AM local time after a long flight from Seattle and were pleased to learn they offered early check in (including breakfast) for a reasonable price. The room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel was located within walking distance of museums, shopping, and dining. The hotel staff was pleasant and very helpful throughout our stay. Food in Reykjavik was very expensive, with coffee in a Styrofoam cup at $3.80, and fish and chips at $20.00. Breakfast at the hotel (included in the price of the room) was comprised of a fine selection of tasty food items, and was a great way to start out each day.

Room Tip: Electrical outlets in the hotel accept the standard European two round prong, 240 volt, connectors.

We've just returned from a 5-night stay. The double room was clean, perfectly quiet and both it and the shower room were plenty spacious enough (What do other people do in their rooms? Ballroom dancing??). We were surprised to find two single duvets on the double bed and wondered if it is the Icelandic way. However, we got there so late that we just crashed out anyway without asking and rather liked the lack of duvet-nicking during the night so we left it for the rest of the stay.
There was a huge buffet for breakfast, with a wide enough selection to please anyone-and it was possible to secrete a piece of flapjack for elevenses..!
The staff were invariably polite and smiling, and most efficient at booking tours for us.
Location-wise, it was perfect- especially as all of the tour operators collected us and dropped us off there and we could walk to all of the museums and restaurants we wanted to go to.
We wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Room Tip: We didn't request a particular room; the view from ours on the 4th floor was over some apartment...

Just for one night, but within walking distance of all. Friendly staff, good room - not new but ok - and the possibility for an upgrade. Rooms are clean and well sized - just shower room was rather small. Gladly again.
