“Great Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Terrific location, right in downtown area, but since Reykjavik is really a big small town, "downtown" doesn't mean noisy and crowded. Hotel is at the top of one of the main streets. There is a great deal to see within easy walking distance. Tour companies pick up at this hotel, among others, and move clients to their hubs for transfer. The staff was pleasant, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The room was very comfortable and there was a wonderful amount of hot water in the shower. If (when) we go again, we will want to stay here. Also, the breakfast buffet was outstanding and there was plenty of seating.

My family (parents and an adult child) were traveling to Reykjavik and decided to stay in the Plaza because of the option of a 3 bed room. It was actually two beds pushed together, and a third bed in another area of the room. The room had ample space for 3 adults and our luggage. The shower was great and the breakfast had an impressive assortment. Also, the location could not be beat. I would recommend this hotel for a family going to Reykjavik.

The pros: the location is next to the Visitors' Center and close to everything. We walked to the harbor for our fishing trip, we walked to many restaurants.... Rooms are cheerful, beds comfy, lots of hot water in spacious shower. TV had good amount of channels, including CNN, Internet desk in lobby convenient. Free Wi-Fi appreciated. Nice, plentiful breakfast. Pleasant and helpful staff.
The cons: noise from the street, late into the night, free parking limited, but street meters only run from 10 am to 6 pm and are not too expensive. And there is not time limit. So we managed fine.
We would definitely return to this hotel. Reasonably priced.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room away from the street.

Stayed for 7 days in late August. Loved the location. The staff is very very helpful. Every person we dealt with was extremely nice and went out of their way to help us. Hotel is very clean. The street can get loud on Friday and Saturday nights with the bar crowd, but it didn't bother me. Breakfast has a large selection of foods to accommodate American and European palates.

This is a great hotel for anyone on a short vacation or stopover in Iceland. My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in early January 2013 and found it to be the perfect choice.
The hotel has great breakfast, friendly and helpful staff and an awesome location in the center of Reykjavik.
It was reasonably priced and the rooms were as you would expect. Clean, comfortable and ideal for basic needs. They also have a good selection of Icelandic beers at the bar.
The only hiccup we had was a young woman freaking out as she checked into our room at 2am. The desk gave her the same room with a key card and she walked in to find my wife jumping out of bed. I sleep naked so this was pretty... Awkward.
That aside, we plan to stay here again on our next stopover to Europe.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a bed

We were only staying one night on our way to Alaska so I booked on the basis of price, location and fact it was on Flybus route (but I think most hotels in Reykjavik are). I got a good deal with Venere but if I'd had to pay a higher price this review would not be so good.

Staff excellent, as they are in most hotels in Iceland. Location very good. Near Harpa, the big new concert hall, the harbour and the Main Street, Laugevegur. Also in a nice area with lots of older buildings, cages and restaurants.

The hotel was pleasant. Modern blonde wood Scandinavian type decor. I can't comment on the restaurant as we didn't eat there. Breakfast was fine with a reasonable choice and good coffee.

The problem was the room. We were in the new part of the hotel which was actually an old building joined to the newer hotel building by a glass walkway on the 3rd floor. Our room, 335, was about as far as you could go and required going up to the 3rd floor, along corridors, over the walkway where we were then on the second floor so had to take a lift - just a moving platform - another floor up. Whew! Room pleasant. Nicely decorated but it was under the eaves so you had to be careful getting out of bed not to hit your head. The real problem was the shower which was a handheld shower on the bath. The bath was also under the eaves, a sloping wall, so you couldn't stand up and head to bend over to get a horizontal spray from the shower.

I like the location but if we returned but would email the hotel to make sure we didn't get the same room.

Room Tip: Don't choose room 335

The staff was helpful and the breakfast was one of the better ones during our trip but the room showed signs of wear and tear and the modern but poor bathroom design meant the entire bathroom floor was a lake every time one of us showered. You could certainly do worse but could also do better.
