“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

We stayed for 8 nights. Room on the 4th floor was facing the main street, and noises were a bit loud at times. Worse was the sound of drilling, just next to our room, and we were told they are fixing broken pipes. In the afternoon when we were taking a nap, someone knocked the door, and it was one of the workmen, who wanted to check if we have leak in the bathroom. We did not, and he looked puzzled. Banging and drilling went on most of that afternoon.
Breakfast was great, plenty of variety and fresh bread was delicious.
Comfortable beds in rooms, bathroom quite small, but manageable.
Nice restaurants nearby, different one for each evening. Location could not be better, walking distance from the harbor, shopping street etc. Taxis available just outside the hotel.
Friendly and helpful staff in hotel.
I would probably stay in this hotel again, but next time without all the drilling etc please. At least it could have been announced beforehand, that there is renovation/building/repairs going on. We would have arranged something else to do for that day.

Room Tip: If you do prefer quiet room, ask for one not facing the square as you will hear traffic, skateboarde...

My husband and I spent 3 nights at this hotel - our first stop in Iceland. First the pros. The hotel is centrally located. The hotel staff was very nice. Breakfast was included and was pretty good with cereal, some hot dishes, yogurt, bread, fruits, veggies. Rooms were clean. No noise issues even though on main street. Blinds kept rooms sufficiently dark. Room had a mini fridge. Now the cons. While the staff was nice they weren't overly helpful when we asked for suggestions and help with things to do around town. Rooms were a bit outdated. Bathroom shower only had a handheld shower head (no holder) and the first shower leaked all over bathroom (though we figured out how to control it with lower water pressure and carefully facing the shower head away from the door). There was no soap, shampoo, body wash or conditioner for the shower. Hotel staff did send up soap for the shower but nothing else. We reserved a room with a double bed but we got two twin beds with a double sized sheet-this may be more of a European thing rather than specific to this hotel. We understand there are 2 sides to the hotel and ours may have been the older side (room 320) and maybe the newer side was more updated with nicer rooms. Overall the hotel was ok but was a bit pricey for what it offered though from our experience Reyjkavik, as a whole, was the same.

I spent 3 nights at the Plaza hotel on a business trip. The hotel is very well located in Reykjavik, close to lots of shops and restaurants, but then again, most hotels in town are close to these amenities as it is a small place! The hotel is in reasonable condition and the bedrooms are in good condition. Separate shower room and toilet are good. The room is a good size and comes with a kettle and small bar fridge. The beds are reasonably comfortable and the rooms are well heated. I think the curtains could be a little better at keeping out the midnight sun! Also, would help if there was some kind of blind or something over the small toilet window - if you go early in the morning you are blinded by the light! Free internet in the hotel is good, but service up on the third floor in rooms after the fire door is a little hit and miss - helps if the fire door is kept open on the magnetic lock (as it is supposed to be). If you are getting poor internet access check out the fire door and make sure it is open. The hotel common areas are pretty good, the small bar is OK (expensive, but hey, everything is expensive here!) and the staff are very friendly.

All in all I enjoyed my staff at Plaza and don't really have anything to complain about or rave about.

Room Tip: If you are travelling in summer, make sure you bring eye shades to help you sleep!

We spend 3 nights there (2 adults). Location is probably best in whole capital - walking distance to majority of the city highlights. Value for money - average but this place is mostly built to give you quick access to excursions and siteseeings.
Food is very average but OK if you don't plan more than 3-4 days stay.
We were accomodated in old hotel section, there is newer one. You will notice it is weared but it doesn't ruin the vacation. Cleaning is very average. Sound isolation is not very well.
Staff is polite and helpful.
If you plan quick visit in Reykjavik this is a very good place to overnight providing your expectations are not too high.

Room Tip: Ask for room in new section.

The CenterHotel Plaza is in the core of Reykjavik, just near from the information center. The staff is helpfull. The rooms are big and well equiped. I recommand the rooms in the building of the reception : when there are few tourists, the "external" parts of the hotel are a little too cold.
Breakfact buffet is one of the best in Iceland I had. I beneficited of a special offer for two nights, so the price for this quality of hotel was very cheap.

After alot of research I chose this hotel and it turns out I made the right choice. It's in a perfect location, just a few hundred metres from the Old Harbour, Harpa concert hall, the main city square.....etc....
I had been in contact with the staff via email to arrange a birthday surprise in our room on arrival. They couldnt have been more helpful, especially Kristjana. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff during our stay.
The breakfast buffet is extensive, hot food available as well as the usual fruit, porridge, herrings, toast, rolls, cheese...Great coffee, nice and strong!
Happy hour every evening in the hotel bar.
Tours can be arranged from reception, but the tourist office is next door, very handy.
We would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Top floor is quieter. You'll get planes from the domestic airport buzzing over every so often th...
