“Nice friendly staff, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

4 night break arriving on the late flight - checking in at 1.30 in the morning OK despite no record of the booking. Rooms were compact but clean and all the facilities.
Good breakfast and 2 for 1 happy hour important in Iceland where drinks aren't cheap.
Would definitely recommend

Room Tip: Front rooms have views over the square - not noisy but great views of sunrise

Stayed one night towards the end of our holiday in Iceland. The hotel was conveniently located and it was easy to park opposite the hotel. You need to pay from 10 am til 6 pm but the whole day parking is about for the same price as for two hours in London. Driving in Reykjavik is very straight forward so it was simple to find. The room was small but clean and had tea and coffee facilities and wifi. Breakfast was nt great but served its purpose. There are lots of nice coffee shops nearby and some wonderful restaurants for both lunch and dinner. The staff were helpful storing our luggage, printing our boarding passes for our flight home. A nice place to stay in a good location.

My wife and I spent a week here in April as part of a group trip to see auroras, so we came and went at odd hours. This hotel was selected for us by the travel leader, and we found it excellent. The hotel was formed from two existing buildings by constructing a glass lobby area between them, giving a nice appearance. The staff was terrific and the restaurant meals were quite nice. For walking around Reykjavik the location could not have been better! We would certainly stay here again. (We signed up for WiFi, but WiFi may also be available near a shop across the street.)

Room Tip: Nobody in our group voiced any complaints about the rooms. They were well designed and nicely finis...

On arrival at the hotel after booking through booking.com we were told that it was overbooked however the booking manager went out of his way to look after us with a move to another similar hotel and a dinner in the fantastic restaurant. The staff also kindly changed our tour start points to the new hotel. We stayed at the hotel on the last night and though disappointed we could not stay the three nights appreciated the last one in the middle of the old town. Key strengths are location, dinner, beds and great customer focused staff.

Central to everything you need in Reykjavik. Next door to a supermarket. 2 minutes walk away from the Information Center, the only one in town that actually has a tax refund office behind it. And you can have all your souvenir shopping done on your way there. Walking distance to many sights and restaurants. The hotel itself is very comfortable and the service is great. One concern is there is no parking. And don’t even think of finding some nearby. Other is the infinite different type of rooms there. If you end up with a larger one you will be very pleased with it. They even have duplex penthouses. Bathrooms could use more counter space. Despite central to everything it is exceptionally quiet. Breakfast was good. I can’t find a reason, unless I am driving, to stay anywhere else in town.

My 14 year old son and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights at the end of October. We booked 2 single Deluxe rooms and were given interconnecting rooms 318/319. Very quiet at the back of the hotel. The rooms were of a high standard and cleaned each day.

Free WiFi was available' look for "The Grand".

Breakfast was mixed. The continental selection of yogurts, fruits, pastries, meats and cheeses was very good. The cooked breakfast was poor as it was not kept sufficiently warm. It seemed properly cooked, it was the weedy heat lamps were incapable if keeping the items warm.

The hotel location is excellent, on a square with many restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. Tour minivans also stopped outside the door.

Hotel staff were polite and efficient. We arrived prior to check in of 2pm and were immediately offered left luggage space so we could undertake an afternoon city tour.

In summary, good hotel in an excellent location.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and had an excellent experience. The hotel itself is perfectly located to explore the city, and the helpfulness of the reception staff cannot be overstated - they went out of their way to ensure we got excursions we wanted, and to ensure our stay was the best it could be. I thoroughly recommend staying here if you visit Reykjavik!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Reykjavik Centrum is a new first class hotel in the heart of the city, opened on April 1st 2005. It is located on one of Reykjavik’s oldest streets, Adalstraeti, in a newly renovated building, the oldest part of which was built in 1764. On each side of it, new buildings have been constructed in the likeness of their historic predecessors. The hotel spreads over all three buildings, and is designed in the style found in Reykjavík around 1900. During its construction, the remains of a Viking longhouse from the Settlement Period were found. Among the finds excavated at the site were Iceland’s oldest human remains, dating from approximately 870 AD.The hotel has 89 rooms, each fitted with modern amenities, such as satellite TV, telephone, Internet access, mini-bar, radio, iron and board, hair dryer, safe and tea & coffee set. All rooms have en-suite bathroom with either a shower or a bath. ... more   less
