“Excellent rooms and helpful accommodating staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Hotel is very centrally located and nice outside and inside; we stayed twice, at the beginning and end of our trip, two weeks apart. We reserved a deluxe room both times and were not disapointed. Second time we got upgraded to a junior suite #303 with a loft (but bathroom was downstars!). During our stay, the hotel was fully booked (perhaps even overbooked, so some people with a confirmed reservation were sent to a "sister hotel")
Rooms were spacious, well equiped, with coffee/tea facilities, minibar, bath robes and slippers, nice beds and bedding.
Staff at the reception, especially Anna BjÖrt, were very pleasant and helpful in finding the right room for us and printing our bording passes.
Breakfast was good with large warm and cold selections, but can be very hectic when large groups are present (like in many other hotels in Iceland).

The Hotel Reykjavik Centrum served my purpose which was to have a central location, clean but not too expensive.

The restaurant looked good, although we did not try it.

If I was visiting Reykjavik again I would probably stay in the Hotel Reykjavik Centrum again because it met my requirements, although it isn't a "destination" in its own right.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel, using it as a base for day trips to the many wonderful sights outside and within Reykjavik. The rooms were clean, very quiet, and provided ample closet space for a short stay. Unfortunately, the breakfast was poor, (packets of American Quaker Oatmeal, fruit cut up to the tinest pieces still on the rhine) leaving much to desire. Television, was also poor, with very very limited stations, and only if you wanted to pay on a daily basis for access were you able to get somethig other than cartoons and BCC sky sports. The staff was very helpful and pleasant.

Good room, albeit very small for two people, but central to the downtown sites. Everything (almost) is walkable from there, which is key in Reykjavik. Tourist office, nice bakery for morning pastries, great coffee shop and a grocer just a few steps down the street. Not luxurious, but would go again as a convenient and comfortable base for in town touring.

Room Tip: No pool or fitness center on site.

This hotel is right in the centre of Reykjavik and you get the feeling you are in a quiet suburb. The rooms are large and well equipped. The restaurant and adjacent cafeteria use the same kitchen which provides good quality meals whether you have a snack of a full dinner. Staff is helpfull and responsive. Prices are slightly on the high side.

Iceland is a stunning country vast Lava fields and scenery which can take your breath away. This was our first visit to Reykjavik and the Centrum Hotel. Staff seem disinterested and non charismatic on the welcome desk, hardly a welcome, is this Icelandic way? Hotel is fine and in good location to get to most places within Reykjavik. The room was stuffy and hot all the time and no air hardly, mid summer the heating could be turned off or timed at least. Beware of mini bar your charged even when take out an item for a brief look. Restaurant is excellent for meal, we had our evening meal which is of high standard. Breakfast is ok...basic but acceptable. Overall good Hotel in middle of Reykjavik, noise can be a issue so choose a room at the rear of the hotel. Staff are like show room dummies no warmth or even a hello? I think this is the area which could be improved, especially when people have travelled a good distance to see their country!

Last day missed breakfast asked for travel breakfast at reception as early flight the next day and paid for breakfast in with cost of room, this did not happen, no travel breakfast on our departure and too early to go in restaurant @ 5 am, reception had no idea what we were taking about, sums up the hotel really, non communicative.

Room Tip: Chose rear rooms, don't use mini bar too expensive.

Very nice hotel within easy walking distance of the harbour area and the busy city centre full of restaurants and pubs. Also a short stroll to the Reykjavic Excursions office where we booked our trips.

We had a room on the second floor at the front of the building and we had no trouble with traffic noise. There was a bit of chatter outside (very) late on Saturday night but no worse than you would expect at any city centre hotel.

The room was bigger than we expected and was cleaned and serviced daily.

Early departures and late returns each day meant we didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the food.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel Reykjavik Centrum is a new first class hotel in the heart of the city, opened on April 1st 2005. It is located on one of Reykjavik’s oldest streets, Adalstraeti, in a newly renovated building, the oldest part of which was built in 1764. On each side of it, new buildings have been constructed in the likeness of their historic predecessors. The hotel spreads over all three buildings, and is designed in the style found in Reykjavík around 1900. During its construction, the remains of a Viking longhouse from the Settlement Period were found. Among the finds excavated at the site were Iceland’s oldest human remains, dating from approximately 870 AD.The hotel has 89 rooms, each fitted with modern amenities, such as satellite TV, telephone, Internet access, mini-bar, radio, iron and board, hair dryer, safe and tea & coffee set. All rooms have en-suite bathroom with either a shower or a bath. ... more   less
