“Great for a Stroll”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

The park is good for a refreshing walk, much like Reykjavik itself. There's not much vegetation, etc. but the view of the houses across the water is lovely. Watch out for the seagulls near the parliament buildings, as they are expecting a handout. You'll see some norther waterfowl along with Canada geese and mallards.

“Great place to spend afternoon with small children”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

The zoo and family park is a great place to bring the kids, particularly the young ones. There is a trampalene and giant bubble to jump on, a large playground set, motorized and nonmotorized mini cars to drive and much more. Not a wide selection of animals at the zoo, just the basic farm animals, seals, a reindeer.

“Nice place to chill (or warm up!) and feel like a local”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

Was staying in the Kex Hotel nearby, saw this on a map and thought it was worth a look!

Entry was about 5,000 Icelandic Krona or US$5. Per the other posters here can confirm it looked to be almost all locals in attendance - basically a regular swimming pool. Facilities include a sauna, free lockers (keys have an elastic band attached to put around your arm - nice touch), showers etc.

The complex outside (inside was closed in summer?) has a 50m pool with 8+ lanes at around 25-27 degrees celsius, then there's a children's pool with waterslide, and one or two hot pools (38 degrees celsius). Fairly crowded but not too much.

All in all a nice place to spend a couple of hours and see how some Icelandic people go about their leisure!

“A hidden gem in Central Reykjavik”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

Was taken here by local friends and was completely blown over! The Park seems to exist in a micro climate which is decided un-Icelandic. Trees and shrubs shelter walkways and provide a sense of privacy with sculpture scattered here and there. There is also a large botanical garden and the remains of the original laundry site that the park takes its name from.

“The best pool complex we have ever visited - dont fear changing rooms!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

Visited with children aged 7, 12 - the facilities are very impressive.
This complex seems to attract more natives than tourists, it seemed to us that almost everybody else there on that day was Icelandic.

They have full sized laned pools inside and outside, additionally a very large outdoor pool for casual use. Around that are two hot tubs, plenty of longers and other places to sit.

The pool is heated to a very comfortable temperature, (it slightly steams when air temp was 18C) for kids tp play about, three water slides with different heights and speeds were liked very much by the kids. The large slide is actually quite a thrill if you take it at full speed, half way down it goes to a blackout with lights embedded around the tube.

The protocol:
Take your own towel to the pool.
At reception you get a key on a band and a ticket with a bar code.
The ticket opens the turnstil to the changing rooms, so keep it handy.
Go through and there are separate entrances for men and women changing areas
The lockers are large, find an empty one - there are a few individual changing rooms around the edge so get a locker near to one of those if you are the shy type, you can change in there and put your stuff in the locker.

IMPORTANT: You will need to dry yourself before returning to the locker area so take a towelwith you, yo will be able t leabe it around the pool area while you swim.

Ok now you have changed walk through into the shower area and shower, the showers are welll spaced out so it does not feel too awkward to shower there without your swim trunks on. Yes there will be lots of old guys walking around in the buff but so what the pool is worth it.

Go through to the pool and enjoy. On the way back shower again, dry using that towel you bought along and back to your locker and changing cubilcle.

CHILDREN: My daughter age 7 got some help from the staff making it through the changing room without us. They were vey helpfull.

Both children were free to get in.
