“Downtown Reykjavic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

I stayed at Hotel Fron one night. The first room I was booked into was on the 2nd floor facing the street and very noisy. I asked for a quieter room and was placed in to a room in a back building. As I walked into the lobby of the second building there was a very unpleasant smell (bad lamb stew?) and I was a little worried as I found my room as the hallways had shabby carpet and looked in need of some cleaning. However, my room turned out to be an adorable unit on the top floor with high, open beam ceilings and a super comfy bed. It was very clean with the exception of what looked like some mildew in the shower caulking. The location is right on the busiest tourist street so out the door you have all the shopping and restaurants you could desire. Breakfast is included but I didn't bother after taking a look. If you don't mind very basic (cold cereal, toast and cold cuts) then it will be fine. I'd definitely stay here again. I found it a challenge to find reasonably priced accommodation in Reykjavic during high season, and for this room I paid about $140 and my room had it's own bathroom.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room in the back to avoid the noise of the main street.

Hotel Fron was a good starting out hotel. Great location, plenty of shopping , cafe and restaurants.

The hotels breakfast was included however, it was lacking. It's not that I need bacon, eggs, and sausages everyday, but cereal, toast and meats is not a lot. It was free/included so I'm not going to complain too much about it.

The room we had is like a studio apartment, it was not on the Main Street so it was quiet. The walls are kind of thin so do you do hear people, walking around often. The shower leaked really bad and the floors got really wet, so don't put anything on the floor while you shower otherwise it will get wet. Also, the room we stayed in room 228, clearly was not one of the rooms they used for their website, it was dated and dingy.

This was the final hotel we stayed at on our trip to Iceland and by then very used to Iceland standard hotel/guesthouse rooms. Our room was bright with a spacious washroom. The hotel was in a terrific location, great for last minute exploring and souvenir purchasing before our flight. The breakfast was simple but fine. We would definitely stay here again.

My husband and traveled with our 23 and 25 year old daughters to Iceland en route to Stockholm. I chose this hotel because it was on the main street of Reykjavik, and that it offered a 2 bedroom apartment for a reasonable price for the 2 nights we were there. I was a little nervous based on some of the reviews, but just goes to show you can't believe everything you read.

Perfect location for walking around to restaurants, groceries, shopping as well as a few attractions. Nice front entry, desk staff not too personable except for one young lady who was very pleasant and most helpful with directions, restaurant tips etc.

Our apartment was very simple and clean, and had a small kitchen with table and chairs which was open to a living room area with couch and TV. The bathroom and 2 bedrooms were off the kitchen/living area. The kitchen included dishes, glasses, a microwave, coffee pot and small fridge. Bathroom was small but functional.(could not get used to the sulfa smell when showering, but that is all of Iceland)The beds were comfy and there was a good sized closet and desk in both rooms. Our daughters room overlooked the street side but no problem with noise.

A breakfast buffet in the small restaurant downstairs was included with the room and had pastries, breads, fruit, cereals, meats, cheese, coffee, tea, juices etc. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant but had a few drinks at the bar. The restaurant and bar area closed fairly early in the evening.

We have stayed in many hotels over the years, and while we do have certain expectations, we are by no means overly fussy. We found Hotel Fron suited us perfectly and was a great place to stay while visiting Reykjavik.

Great hotel right on the main street in Reykjavik. When we checked in, we were given a twin room. When we discussed this with reception, they moved us to a 1-bed apartment, with balcony - one of the best rooms in the hotel, despite the fact we'd booked a cheap deal online. The staff were really friendly, the rooms are very clean, and the apartments are very well equipped. Great place to stay.

The best thing about Hotel Fron is its convenient location. You're on a main street with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. And we were in one of their buildings in the back, so it was quiet.

We ended up with a HUGE room - it was an apartment with 3 bedrooms and a kitchen - for a very reasonable rate. (I'm not sure how that happened, as there was only two of us.) The central living space was a little crowded, but nicely decorated in a modern, Scandinavian style. The bedrooms were very plain and sparsely decorated; I wish they had taken the same care with the bedrooms as they did for the living area.

We found the rooms to be clean and comfortable. We did notice there were bits of paper on our hallway floor outside our door the whole three nights we stayed, so we could tell they didn't vacuum as much as we would like.

The staff was nice and generally helpful; we requested help in securing reservations for a whale watching tour and they took care of it immediately. However, when we checked in it was late at night; the reception staff was very friendly but I wish she had been a little more helpful. The instructions were not clear in how to find our room. (There are several buildings in the back and we roamed around a bit with our luggage trying to find the correct building). Also, we asked for help in finding any spots where we could find something to eat at that hour. The staff gave vague directions but didn't offer to show us on the map as most hotels do. (Consequently, we didn't find the place she suggested.)

Their breakfast was standard compared to other Icelandic hotels at which we stayed. (I think they make the orange juice from concentrate, as it had the faint sulfuric smell of their water. Not too appetizing. Tip: Try the apple juice instead.)

Overall, a pretty good experience, and we would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room. Some face the street, which could get loud on the weekends. The room we had in...

The room in this hotel was a nice size and it even had a little kitchenette, which would be useful if staying in Reykjavik for a while. However, the toilet seat was broken and the shower leaked along the side of the shower head, so some maintenance was needed. The room also had a door out to a corridor that wasn't part of the hotel and it was the only way to get air into the room. This made us nervous as we did not have a sense of how secure it was. Consequently, we kept it shut and the room was overly warm. The staff was pleasant, but not particularly interested in extending themselves. For example, their internet connection was different from everyone else's we used in Iceland. It would have been helpful to have gotten a sheet of paper that explained this. On the whole, average, but perfectly OK as a place to stay. It is right downtown on the main shopping street, so convenient for spending money.
