“Hotel Fron is a terrific hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

The staff was hospitable and helpful. Since our plane landed early in the morning, I knew in advance that our room probably wouldn't be ready, When we got to the hotel, at about 8:30, the gentleman at the reception desk confirmed that, but told us to please avail ourselves of a complimentary breakfast while we waited for the next 2 hours. Within 1 1/4 hours our room was available. The friendly staff made dinner reservations and confirmed excursions for us.
The location is terrific - both in terms of being on the main shopping street and within walking distance of most things you'd want to see in Reykjavik. Truly a memorable stay! The Hotel Fron is highly recommended.

Room Tip: I wrote the hotel in advance and asked for a room at the back, so that it would be quieter. It was i...

My husband and I were booked at this hotel from 15-19th March. As mentioned in a previous review, when we got to the hotel we were told they were over booked and that they arranged a room for us in another hotel about a 10 minute walk away.

The annoying thing was since October last year and just before our trip I was speaking to a lady at the hotel called Helda, who lied through her teeth that me and my husband would be upgraded to a deluxe apartment as we were celebrating our anniversary. Who does that?

On our arrival at Hotel Fron - the manager bragged about how he is sending us to a nicer hotel (4 stars) and that he was going to pay the difference and the breakfast was amazing etc etc. Ok the room we had was definitely not of 4 star standards but it was clean - very basic but my husband and I were comfortable. It was not a pleasant experience to be told we were going to a different hotel and not knowing what this might be like.

Another thing and I hope this is helpful for people who book an Iceland trip through groupon, we got our Iceland trip via groupon and the company dealing with the holiday are called Weekender Breaks - and they are a pain in the backside. Not letting me fly from my chosen airport, making me add an additional day to my trip as they couldn't fly us back on the 3rd day – in total I had to pay £150 more for our trip that I could have got cheaper on my own, having looked afterwards. So my advice is not to book through Weekender Breaks via groupon or book with Hotel Fron period!

On a positive, we did have an amazing time in beautiful Iceland and were luck to meet nice people and see an amazing northern lights solar storm on the 17th of March.

Found a great hotel in the middle of downtown Reykjavik
Close to everything you want to go and see. Right across the street from a fantastic woolen store. The only downside......this is Easter week and the shops are closing from Thursday through Monday. Nice and clean with individual down comforters, fridge, microwave, mini bar, stove, plus pots and pans and dishes.......an apartment.

Room Tip: The off street building is perfect. No noise and off the street. At night the traffic goes down to l...

We (Fenny en Ria Bruins) have had a graet time in Hotel Fron! Especially we thank the ladys at the front desk. Our stay in Fron made our holiday in Iceland unforgettable. We hope, we will come back once. Hotel Fron is centraly located, restaurants, shops, harbour, church nearby. We loved our room(223). Breakfast was very good. Outside the hotel, is a terrace where you can drink something. The busses for our tours picked us up in front of the hotel. We booked our trip at IJsland Tours in the Netherlands.Very good.

Room Tip: Lovely room, room 223.

Stayed here twice in March 2013, on the way up to Lake Myvatn and again on the way back. When we arrived Reykjavik was having its worst weather of the winter, with snow storms and very high winds (all flights were stopped), but the hotel was still lovely and warm. Our first room was on the main street, but it wasn't noisy (we stayed midweek) and we even had to turn the radiator down as it was chucking out so much heat. Very comfortable beds, and small bathroom but lots of hot water (yes, a bit sulphurous like everywhere in Iceland). The second time we stayed we had a studio apartment with kitchen area and sofa and a very large bathroom with skylight - excellent.
The location of this hotel is brilliant - right on the main street with lots to do around. We got 2 buses to climb Mount Esja - the lady on reception told us which buses to get and got the correct times for us, which was absolutely brilliant. We could have got a guide who would have organised transport and shown us the way, but the cost would have been 90 euros each. The route itself is very well signposted, so just the cost of the buses was less than 10 euros between us.
The only slight negative we would have about this hotel is the breakfast - there wasn't much variety, although there was lots of what was there (loads of bread for example, but just apples and some banana pieces for fruit). The staff on reception really make this place though - there's always someone there ready to help. Definitely recommended.

Nice and clean hotel. With basic rooms and friendly service. Recommend by us = a family of four. Centrally placed in the town with shops and bars. Climate in island is mild and friendly, much nicer than in Denmark

Beds and pillows very comfortable - always a plus! Very warm and quiet at the back where we'd asked to be located. Standard hotel rooms here don't normally have tea and coffee making facilities, but when we came in late one night desperate for a hot drink, the receptionist went and got us everything we needed and left the kettle with us for the duration. Bar atmosphere friendly

Room Tip: Ask for one higher up and/or at the back - we did, only because others on the site suggested it and...
