“Great base camp for Reykjavik”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

This is a beautiful place in a great location. Our suite was charming and very comfortable. The staff was incredibly helpful. And its location is within short walking distances to all the Old Town points of interest. The only drawback from our standpoint was that there was no breakfast included in the price. But we had delightful breakfasts a few blocks away at the Laundramat Cafe which was a notable find for us in Reykjavik.

This hotel advertises as sound proof, it is not. It is directly next to a night club that plays loud music all night Friday and Saturday night. All night, until the break of dawn. The staff are nice, very nice and accommodating. Next door is a night club, that goes on every Friday and Saturday night. I am paying 300 euro a night for a suite I cannot sleep in. In addition to that there is a construction area behind the hotel, with orange lights on 24/7. I am staying in a suite with special sound isolation, nope still loud, very loud.
Stay away if you wish to sleep during the weekend. The nice accommodating staff cannot make up for the loud nightclub next door.

We stayed here the first 3 days of our honeymoon trip to Iceland and had a fabulous stay. We were on the third floor with a large suite and separate sitting area. This hotel is part of the reykjavik residence hotel, just about 2 blocks down the street. It's a block off the main shopping street and within easy walking distance (5 minutes or less) to the main restaurant areas down by the harbor. I would definitely recommend this hotel for those wanting more space!

I agree with the other review - we enjoyed 3 great nights at the suites. This building has a lot of history well documented in the common spaces on all three floors. This is a wonderful place to stay - the hotel is completely updated with beautiful decor and detail, a wonderful equipped and clean kitchenette, great heating system and towel warmer, a lovely park adjacent to the hotel, and very central location. The staff is extremely welcoming and helpful, especially Alice : ) My kids LOVED their very comfortable foam mattress pull out couch and our bedroom was huge with a fantastic and very comfortable bed. The bathroom is beautiful - my only suggestion is there is plenty of room for a console table in the bathroom for guests to have more space for toiletries.

Reykjavik has quite a night life as you will read in any of the guide books, so no matter where you stay you should be prepared for that. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Enjoyed four nights at the Residence Suites and cannot speak highly enough of the welcome and the room. A splendid room with small, well equipped, kitchen and great shower room. Everything very well appointed. We were looked after royally by all of the staff, particularly Alice, and can only recommend this most highly as a great place to stay within a few minutes' walk of all that Reykjavik has to offer
