“Warm, homey and delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

We were drawn into this delightful restaurant by the appetizing aroma wafting out the front door. The fish soup was perfect -- creamy and satisfying. Also loved the dessert of pancake with cream and rhubarb jam. Even better was the cozy, warm atmosphere. Highly recommended for a simple, homey meal.

“great little spot for Icelandic food in Reykjavik!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

We were in Reykjavik for just a few days. We stumbled upon Gamla/Old Island for lunch on our first day, and we went back for lunch on our last day as well. The hostess was very welcoming and gave our kids paper and crayons. Kids' drawings are put on a wall in the back. We loved our food. I had fish stew (yum!), my wife had a fish gratin dish (can't remember the name), and the kids had pancakes with cream (crepes with real whipped cream). It was moderately priced by Iceland standards

I had the fish soup (strongly recommended) an my husband the salt fish gratin which was served on a map of Iceland trivet. Great place to eat by the Hlemmur bus station.

“A quaint little breakfast nook”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

My friends and I ate here when we wanted a quick breakfast before heading to the Blue Lagoon. We weren't expecting much, but were pleasantly surprised.

It's a very small restaurant with a very friendly staff. The menu is limited but everything is delicious. We didn't know what to order at first, but overheard some other customers ask about breakfast sandwiches which weren't on the menu. We decided to order them as well and they were great!

This restaurant is a little gem in this city and not to be missed.

“Great food, welcoming atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

We happened upon this place while we were wandering around downtown on a cold, rainy day. The kids were crabby and hungry, as were we. It was wonderful! My kids were thrilled with the hot chocolate and the opportunity to draw pictures (with crayons the kind owner brought to our table). We had fish soup and bacalao, both of which were wonderful. My kids had "pancakes" (crepes really), which they loved. The owner then put the kids' drawings on the wall, which thrilled them to no end. Both kids loved the place, and left bubbly and happy, and wanting to come back!
