We stayed in Hotel Bjork two nights at the end of our amazing trip (twelve days long) in Iceland.
It was indeed the bitter "dessert" of the sweet vacation!

Location: Hotel Bjork is located in the heart of the small industrial zone, right opposite Mercedes' garage and some storage houses. It situated about half an hour of the energizing walking from the downtown, the center of the city of Reykjavik.

Rooms: instead of the triple, which we booked, we got double room with extra bed which could be suitable for teenager (quite problematic for staying of three adults).
The main lamp was burned, the shower's holder was broken and the TV didn't work at all. Besides, the DRAINAGE of the shower was impassable.

During the night hours, buses stopped from time to time just under windows producing terrible engines' noise and strong smell of the gasoline's gases.

The water pressure in the shower was low; the hot water was in short supply, frequently stopped at sprinkling cold "fresh" shower from time to time - to recall that we are in Iceland.

Lobby: it was strong constant smell of the lobsters' soup.

Breakfast: "SCIMPINESS" would be the most proper word to characterize the breakfast in general. Everything was in short supply: orange juice, yogurt, pans - even spoons and the simplest bread. Everything was subject of a good will of two employees, which were simply unable to serve so many people which come to the breakfast.

We really wondered – how it is possible that Hotel Bjork Reykjavik is 3 stars? How it is ranked on the top of TripAdvisor's Reykjavik hotels list?

The Hotel Bjork is a little out of Reyjavik and takes about 15 mins walk to the centre. We found this OK. The room was good, decent size and very clean. The Hotel's restaurant was fine but prices are obviously expensive, as is all of Reyjavik. We attempted to search for the Norhtern Lights on 2 nights running but did'nt suceed unfortunately. However, we had an awesome time at The Blu Lagoon , an experience not to miss. It's like being in a SciFi film ! As we went in january, the weather was extremely cold and venturing outside into the milky blue opaque lagoon was a weird but quite energising experience. Also try the Lauger spa, this is an excellent spa with outside hot tubs and loads of sauna's etc. Would certainly visit Reykjavik again and hopefully see the Northern Lights next time.

We booked this hotel having read the reviews on this site, so nothing was unexpected. We found our room very clean and, luckily, overlooking the bay. The reviewer who commented on the thin curtains had obviously missed the fact that there were black-out blinds fitted!! It was roomy and comfortable and the shower was not a problem having been forewarned! The breakfasts filled us up for most of the day, but a small fridge in our room would have been good. The reception staff were very helpful. It was a very convenient location and we were able to walk everywhere within Reykjavik, including the city sights, the Pearl and shopping mall. Tours pick up from the hotels, though the Iceland Tours office was minutes away which was convenient. For anyone on a gluten-free diet it was an ideal destination restaurant-wise. With a print-out restaurant card in Icelandic and a printed email from their coeliac society we had no problems at any of the restaurants where we dined. We filled our 4 days easily and the highlight was the humpback whale in the bay that week easily watched from the boats.

  • Liked — Comfy beds, quiet room, position and bay view.
  • Disliked — No fridge in room.

We stayed here for two nights in June. The location is a bit out of the city center but close enough for a pleasant walk. It was a short walk to the waterfront where this is a paved walkway going toward and away from the center and it is very close to the city stadium and an excellent fitness center.
It is definitely not a posh hotel and the outside is definitely unimpressive, but the rooms were clean and comfortable (and quiet). The real bonus was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff at the front desk. No matter who was on duty, they were extremely helpful and willing to make all kinds of arrangements. They were nice enough to allow 4 of us who straggled in at 9 am after an all night flight from Boston to check in immediately and have breakfast so we ended up getting three breakfasts with a two night stay. Breakfast, by the way, was good and very filling. We were told by other guests that dinner at the adjoining restaurant was very good but we didn't try it ourselves.

  • Disliked — Decor not really up to date.

I found The Bjork to be the perfect city break hotel. I'm not looking for luxury - I'm going to be out exploring all day - but I am looking for cleanliness, a modern finish, decent decor, a good quality bathroom, a comfortable bed and staff who can help me find my way about.

The room was a good size and the bathroom was a decent finish. A fridge would have been nice, but I gather that the warm weather we had is unusual in Iceland. The beds were comfortable and the blind helped reduce the near constant daylight.

The people on reception were all helpful, giving us directions and booking trips / coach back to the airport.

There is a restaurant attached to the hotel (Potturinn og Pannen) where you'll go for breakfast - its also worth a visit for your evening meal. Obviously nowhere in Reykjavik is cheap, but it is good value and has a good choice of victuals. Not bad wine either, if your credit card can stand it!

The location is reasonable, and certainly in summer it is a pleasant walk into the city centre.

I've seen reviews dismissing this as 2 star. I'm a four-star girl when I go away for more than a weekend but I have stayed in two star accommodation and frankly it is an insult to put Bjork in that category. It is a good quality 3 star hotel and I would happily recommend it to my best mate, if she hadn't already been there with us.
