“Nice Little Hotel in Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

My husband and I spent a midweek break here in February. The hotel is very clean and has an excellent location for exploring Reykjavik and for access to the local Grey Line bus tours and airport transfer.
We found all the staff to be very helpful and the lady and gent who deal with the breakfasts are really interesting and entertaining.
The room was spacious with a comfortable bed, the glass encased toilet was a bit weird! Also the lighting generally but especially in the stair areas was very poor (hardly able to see at night) and surprising considering all that geo thermal energy!
The lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms means you have to order room service.
Generally however a lovely little hotel.

This hotel is in a great location for getting around the centre and the room was very clean and comfortable but there were a couple of area's that could be improved. We were a little surprised that there were no tea or coffee facilities in the room. As we were out early every morning of our stay it would have been nice to have been able to have a drink before leaving. On our first night in Iceland, we decided to eat in the hotel instead of trying to find a restaurant but sat waiting for drinks for over half an hour. We did get these as complimentary but it would have been nicer to have them quicker. Even so, we would use this hotel again as the staff were helpful on reception with all our enquiries and as already mentioned, the room was comfortable.

The location of this hotel is excellent and the rooms were clean, modern and very spacious. There were some things though that really brought this hotel from 5 stars to 3 stars. Here are a few of the shortcomings. No clock anywhere in the room (we had 3 rooms and no one had a clock) - strange? Hallways were very very dark. We like to take the stairs, and you could barely see the treads of the staircase - trendy I guess. The restaurant was poor, the service was terrible and inattentive, food came out at random times and not one time did we get everything we ordered - and without apology. The front desk was generally friendly, but one evening there was a front desk manager that was downright nasty to us when we requested our wake up call for the next day.

Our bill was not handled correctly and we are currently trying to sort that out with the credit card company. It appears we were billed on arrival and again on departure, but at the time, the front desk just wasn't sure what was going on. They just kind of shrugged when we questioned it and told us some story about how our credit card had been denied when they guaranteed the room - not so. Finally be aware that there is a nightclub next door that rocks until 4-5am - so if you are a light sleeper expect to be roused through the night on weekends (They do supply earplugs!)

We loved our stay at 101 Hotel. It must have snowed just hours before our flight arrived, as everywhere was glistening white. Our welcome was first class and the room was lovely, with, as requested, a view over the harbour. We were on a special three nights for the price of two deal, which obviously made a big difference.

We were there for a festival at Harper, the huge exhibition and conference centre. We could see it from our window and it was just a few minutes walk - slippery the first evening, but mostly melted by the following day. 101 is very well situated, with shops and restaurants just a few minutes walk in the opposite direction. We ate twice in the hotel restaurant, because our schedule meant eating at 5pm. The food was very good and so was the wine. We had feared that it would be ridiculously expensive - but it was no worse than London prices! Breakfast buffet was also good, but quite expensive.

The room was very clean and the huge bed was very comfortable. We were very glad that we had paid extra for a larger room with a view over the harbour, but I expect all rooms are pretty good.

Service was friendly and efficient. Front desk were extremely helpful.

We would definitely recommend 101 Hotel and return if we ever revisit Reykjavik (which I know how to spell!).

The location is ideal for exploring Reykjavik, walking distance to shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. The entrance is unassuming - the rooms are a decent size with unusually small bath towels - it feels like you're drying yourself with the hand towel!

We requested a room with a view of the harbour which was pretty nice except that it is dark most of the time so you can't really see much of the view. Upon our return stay, we had a different room facing the street and on a Sat night, it was noisy with jovial people leaving the bar singing at 4am. Not a big issue for us since we were had to get up at 5am for a flight but if you're a light sleeper, do request a room away from the street.

Service was good - the guys on reception were friendly and helpful, especially the one with the beard (sorry don't know his name) and they are happy to suggest bars to get a real Icelandic experience. After researching many restaurants, we decided on dinner at the Seafood Grill, just a few minutes walk from the hotel and it was excellent. It gets full on a weekend so you should book on-line. The famous hot dog stand is also just a few minutes walk, it was pretty tasty (crunchy onions were a nice touch) but not worth queuing for more than 5 mins in the snow.

Breakfast at the hotel was a small selection of typical Icelandic hotel breakfast goods but the quality was better. The DIY waffles were a highlight - buckwheat batter and the waffle maker gave a really nice crispy finish. The lady at breakfast was also very friendly - shared some interesting facts about living there.

All in all, we enjoyed 101 and would definitely recommend it as a conveniently located hotel for a short stay in Reykjavik.

Didn't stay but went to the 101 bar for a cocktail based on recommendations in guide book. There was no one else in the bar but it took 25 minutes for our over-priced cocktails to arrive and one of them was utterly disgusting, with squirty cream dumped on the top. No atmosphere. There are 101 better places to go than here.
