“Lovely Stay - Loved Iceland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

We stayed at this hotel as part of the Iceland Air/Northern Lights short break for four nights from 10/11/12-14/11/12 we had a lovely stay. This hotel works really well as previous reviewers have said it is in a great position where you can get to restaurants and pubs in about 10 minutes, but this is far enough away that you do not get disrupted in the night. We were on the fifth floor and had a lovely view of the bay and mountains from our window. We found the reception very helpful with various request about northern lights trips and blue lagoon booking they were extremely helpful and even suggested places for us to eat . The breakfast in the morning is great a really good selection of the usual, which it is constantly being re-stocked which sets you up for your day out site seeing. The reason i did not give 5* is the room was a little tired with a lot of brown wood. It was clean and very warm which was great in the Icelandic weather. We had a fabulous trip to Iceland we saw some wonderful sites and were lucky to see the northern lights on the last night of our trip.

We stayed at the Fosshotel Baron for 3 nights in September 2012. Room was spartan, but clean and comfortable. Free breakfast was great because eating out is very expensive. We had a nice view of the harbour. For a not-to-expensive fast food experience, try Aktu Taktu burger joint right across the street.

Baron is generally very basic, but the rooms are very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was great and the staff are really helpful and friendly. The best aspect of this hotel though is its' location. It is on the edge of the harbour, a two minute walk from Reykjavik centre, and a ten minute walk from the old harbour. I'd definitely stay here again.

Stayed one night at end of our five day tour. This was Halloween and the hotel emailed me before we left home to advise that they were providing a free Ghost Walk that night which we signed up for. This was excellent and our guide very knowledgable and fun. The hotel even extended the bars happy hour for when we all returned.
Our room on the 5th floor was pretty standard but did have tea/coffee making facilities and a very comfortable bed. We had an ocean view but weather did not really allow us to do justice to this. All staff very pleasant and everything functional. Very good breakfast buffet with large selection in a small room off the eating area but this is a large hotel so could get crowded...we had an early start so got in first.
Very good location close to main shopping street. Good value for what it was.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms cost more but preferable to those facing into city. They do have attic rooms but th...

It's about 15 mins from the centre of Reykjavik and close enough to areas with shops and cafes etc. There is a supermarket just around the corner.
Nice room - small bathroom through.
Breakfast - very good.
Staff very good too.

The room was kind of small, but cozy for one person. VERY close to the downtown shops and sight seeing. The staff at this hotel are very pleasant. You will have to get use to the sulfur smell from the hot water. Its not harmful, just use cold water for tea and coffee. Each room has a kettle for hot water. There is a store similar to 7/11 (coincidentally the name of the store is 10/11) about 1-2 minutes walking away from the hotel for snacks and drinks. If I go back, this will most likey be the hotel I use.
