“Unpleasant”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Stayed here with my husband for 5 nights in March. Parking outside of the hotel and wi-fi included in price. Those were the good points. The hotel was grubby, and hotel services folded duvets and emptied the bins everyday, other wise nothing. Didn't expect cups etc washed as there is a sign stating you do this your self, and quite happy to hang towels up and reuse them. However, it would be nice if the bathroom could have been cleaned, that is usual in a hotel. The room was dingy, and bunk beds (which we didn't need or want) made it quite cramped. I wouldn't stay there again, glad to leave.

We took a school party to Iceland (22 students) & 2 staff and spent 4 nights here. This hotel is great for a school party as it is quite basic but it is clean and the rooms are spacious. The staff are helpful. Breakfasts are adequate with cereal, toast, waffles, cheeses, meats & preserves on offer - no-one complained which is a miracle with 22 students! I would recommend this hotel for a school trip or if you are on a budget - but if I was to visit Iceland on my own or with my family I would want to be closer to the centre of Reykjavik as this hotel is quite a long distance away from the centre - too far to walk really. I would also want more luxury - definitely not for you if you like luxury.

Room Tip: Ask if there are any school parties staying and if so ask to be as far away as possible from them as...

I slept here three nights. Rooms were big and artistically decorated. Beds were comfortable and pillows soft and good in size. Breakfast was little costly, but included everything like coffee/tea, fresh bread, meat, juice and other breakfast products. There was a kitchenette in the room too and we cooked some dishes of our choice. Staff is good and great at their work. Hotel is located in a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of the city center. We'll stay there again for sure.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

In August 2012 I went to Europe (Norway, Ireland, Scotland, Iceland) and flew on IcelandAir which I flew on so that I could take advantage of their 'free' layover in Iceland on the way back from Europe. In total, I think I stayed in Reykjavik for five days. All the hostels in the city centre were booked up and there weren't't many options for affordable hotels. Eventually, we found this place on Expedia. Overall it wasn't bad at all. The room had a kitchenette which allowed us to save some money by making a few meals ourselves (eating in Iceland can get expensive).

This place was about a seven minute walk to the bus stop; and once on the bus it took about 10 minutes to get to the city bus terminal that's on edge of the city centre; from there you can either figure out a transfer to bring you closer or you can walk for ten minutes passing some stores and bars along the way until you get to the more main part of town.

If you can find something that's affordable closer to the main part of town: give it a try. But if you're having trouble finding anything closer to town, and don't mind taking the bus (about $3.50 US) or a taxi (about $18. US) give this place a go.

The location of the hotel is both a plus and a minus. On the plus side, it is in a commercial area, meaning that during the weekend the neighbourhood is extremely quiet. On the negative side, the hotel is indeed a bit far from the city centre. However, buses operate frequently and traveling to and from the city centre is no problem at all. The room was a spacious one with a fridge and cooking facilities, and the bed was excellent. The hotel is perhaps in need of some refurbishment, but everything was in perfect working order, except the window, which was impossible to close completely. So, all in all, good value for money, and I will definitely stay there again.

We didn't look too closely at the location of this hotel, and were at first very disappointed at how far we were from the city centre. However, buses operate frequently, and the stroll into town was a really nice way to explore Reykjavík! Furthermore, the standard of the room (OBS! Do not shower with silver jewelry, the sulphur stain them) was great, noise very limited, and the service offered impeccable. The rates for car rental was the best in town, and we were perfectly situated for drives around the countryside, with no hassle of trying to navigate the narrow streets of Reykjavík. The shops and restaurants in the neighbourhood were of the local kind and thus had a whole different pricing than in town.
Keywords: Value for money, real friendly and helpful staff, good basic/traditional breakfast (no fancyspancy stuff), car rental opportunities
