“Five night stay....”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

I stayed at this hotel for five nights recently whilst in Reykjavik. This really is an abysmall place to stay. As many others have commented the staff are surly, rude and totally unhelpful, we asked about directions and were met with a shrug and an arm waved towards the tourist info racks.
The level of room service is non-existant, there are tea bags provided in the room but no coffee or milk (not even whitener). I made the mistake of using the sugar the first night I was there, it did not get replaced for the remainder of my stay. Cups which I had left after making tea did not get cleaned, towels were totally ignored by the maid, even the hint of leaving them on the floor did to work, when I got back to the hotel they were still lying on the floor.

Would not advise anyone to stay here.

I had made a reservation through Expedia for another hotel close to the city center. But when we arrived we were told they had a glitch in their online bookings and were overbooked. Sure I was not happy but what good would a scene do? So they taxied us to what they said was a similar hotel not far away. When we finally arrived, we were almost dumbfounded. Here we were miles from the city center in some wierd commercial district. Being saturday, there was no sign of life anywhere except the disinterested girl at the small reception desk. Oh well, here we were with a bunch of bagage (we had been on a 10 day cruise requiring multiple costume changes.) And it was for only two nights.
We were assigned to the 4th floor of what looked like a newer building next door and guess what... no elevators. Two employees lugged our bags up as we climbed up behing (by the way, we are seniors.)
OK, the room was large by European standards, simply furnished but fine, Bath was fine. Beds not so good. Windows are strictly to let in light because the view is genuinely depressing unless you like hardware stores, restaurant supply, auto parts, etc.
It was still early so we decided to get a cab to the city center. Taxi showed up quickly. The 10 minute trip cost $20 and of course 20 back to change for dinner and 20
again. Anyway in our short visit we spent over $160 on taxi fares.
Next morning went to the breakfast room. It was very crowded so evidently the place was well populated, mostly by Germans. We were given the breakfast at no cost because we were transferred from a hotel which had free breakfast.
Anyway, I can't imagine why anyone would actually choose this place.
Oh, and of course we had to wrestle our bags down 4 floors before catching our ride to the airport.
Reykjavik is a nice city but this hotel sort of tarnished our experience.

The entire hotel is in a sad state of repair. The hotel staff is rude, and very indifferent to your needs. You almost have to plead for housekeeping services, and even then, the so-called service is nothing more than two new towels dropped off carelessly by the bedside.

The toilet bowl was dirty and stained, and the shower area was stained brown. Hopefully, it was just water marks from the sulphur or simply rust marks, and nothing worse.

Another aspect to remember is the location. The "hotel" is situated in a run-down warehouse type district, with sidewalks barely maintained and strewn with both garbage and over-run with weeds.

In other words, had it not been for the spectacular beauty of this country, its people and the places they run would easily qualify as the shabbiest and rudest on the planet. Don't try to save a few bucks and stay in this "botique" hotel. Not worth it - stick with the American branded hotels. At least you know what you are getting, and there are well-established avenues to address any complaints, even if one chose to wait until returning home.

And finally, if you are travelling with kids, safety is a concern, and neither the hotel nor the environs it is situated in inspire any confidence. In other words, what we would call a flea-bag motel.

Avoid this dump.

Room Tip: I would simply say - bring a fan and eye-patch (in summer) if you want to sleep. Rooms have no A/C...

We booked our last nightin Reykjavik here. I wouln't recommend staying much longer than a night or two. The hotel is fairly far from city center if you don't have a car, though the front desk is willing to help arrange tours that will pick you up from the hotel. The bathroom doors in each room are glass and don't offer much in the way of privacy (especially noises...). Additionally, there are no elevators, so if you have heavy luggage, pray that you get a room on a lower floor. We has a sewer smell in our room because the trap in the bathroom hadn't been flushed with water in a while and had dried out. Breakfast is not complimentary, and you have to request it upon booking (not possible if you book through Expedia, Travelocity, etc. Finally, the "double bed" is just two single beds pushed together, which made sleeping with my partner awkward--someone was always on the crack between the two!

Room Tip: If you have heavy luggage or a lot of bags, request a room on a lower floor!

Very nice place to sleep in during a stay in Reykjavík. The room we stayed in was big with great beds. The service excellent. We'll stay there again for sure.

I booked a room here, thankfully for only one night. The reviews seemed ok and at short notice it seemed to be an ok price, although by booking ahead of time I had gotten some way better deals on nicer places in Reykjavik.
I booked the room with a kitchenette so that we could make our own food.
I am not sure if it was an off day for the cleaners or what, but the counters were dirty, there was an old gross smelly sponge on the sink, the fridge had crud in it, and there were some mysterious spots on the chair. I am not a person that gets freaked out by every little spec of dirt, but this was a bit much, made me wonder if the room had even been cleaned.

When the time came for bed, we were disappointed that the blankets didn't even fit over our feet! They were little kids blankets or something. Both of us are average height so this was really strange. Made for a pretty uncomfortable sleep. The location however was quiet, which was a plus. If the room had been cleaner and the blankets a reasonable size I would have been far more pleased with this room.

Firstly, the only down side is that this hotel is quite a walk from the town centre (about 25 minutes, do-able but a bit of an effort after a day's activities); though easily accessible by bus or taxi.

The room we were sharing (myself, partner and daughter) was very spacious and bright. Loved that it not only had the usual bed/bathroom/telly but also a kitchenette type area so we could cook dinner :-) Breakfast every morning was fresh and plentiful. The staff were very helpful and friendly. All in all a really good stay.
